MMC Alpha / Beta Download
I am willing to put MMC up for download right now under the condition that you all know this is an alpha / beta quality product at the moment. I figure now is better then ever to start getting feedback...
Are you all okay with this? We would love to really start making some serious progress toward what you are all looking for... so I think this would be a good move.
Please let me know

MMC Alpha Release - Download Now!
Okay, well here it is. Try not to laugh too hard when you use it. It is about a ~27MB download. This will be only the first time, since it requires .NET Framework 2.0. The next release, we will split the files. You will see on the download page the prereqs that need to be downloaded and installed, about 90% of you will probably have these...
I hope to here good and bad things from as many of you as possible... I can not wait to start fixing bugs and adding a ton of features.
Thanks again for all of your patience and feedback thus far!

1st try
I had it scan my media files, this worked fine. I could play music fine, the interface seems to work well enough, except for the buttons that have no effect yet. The DVD playback was less sucessful. The window flashed while it tried to play the DVD, but never got further than that, then I couldn't get out of the program after than. c#/xml is definitely the way to do this under Win32, its the natural environment for this kind of thing.
I dont like visualizations, they eat cpu, heat up my machine and do very little to add to the experience, except distract me. I'd rather it kept the UI and forgot all about visualizations, although I suppose some people like them.

I played some songs with it, it has potential. I encode all my DVDs to DIVx so that is what I would like to see it play.
I can't wait to see what all the other buttons do so I can have something relevant to say...

Looks like it's a "NO GO" on my system too with Windows XP Professional. It installed the 2.0 Framework, rebooted, and then installed the application but I get the splash screen and this error when launching Nucleus.
Access to the path 'C:\\System Volume Information' is denied.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

Well as a developer you must realy test the installation before yo send it out. I use "VMware Workstation" it's a virtual PC that you run on your PC. "VMware Workstation" is easy to "reset" so you always have a clean PC to try the installation on. Check it out: http://www.vmware.com/products/desktop/ws_features.html

"as a developer you must realy test the installation"
Thats what users are for! Developers just make it compile

Wow! Nevermind. I browsed to the install directory for the application and then found the readme file. Simply changing the "MusicFolder" value in Nucleus.exe.config fixed the issue with the access denied problem I was having! The product looks great but the readme should have a created link so people will know it exist! There wasn't any indication during install or shortcut links that a readme was available.
