Open Source Interface System
Hey,
I remember reading about this once or twice, forget where, but would love to help collaborate such an effort since I am unaware of such an effort that is being widely used. I personally would love to make an OpenSource MediaInterface, but a project that would be both lossly and tightly organized with goals in mind.
This is because MediaEngine, MediaCar, Frodo, Voices all are great, but just don't make the cut. This would allow a joint effort to be able to put in a little bit of the best of everything to hopefully make an application that fits all.
Now here's the issue, I'd start the programming myself, but am a College Student and just happens that I am in the process of learning Java (ight, ight, I don't like the language myself).
I would like to know what some other programmers who would be willing to help out with this possible colleberation on their Pogramming Language Choice. If we chose some other language, I guess I would kinda try to just manage the project and help out with the programming as I learn the new language choosen.
Anyways, let me know what everyone's thoughts are on such an effort and what kind of backing can I aspect from other programmers around here?
Mark

That would require me actually getting the Plugin code in there

My project, Tiny Music Embedded is completely open source. I encourage people to make additions/changes.(Provided you send me then for possible future implementation.)
Mine isn't main stream as it targets the non-screen crowd though.

Hey guys,
Was on the board many years ago and have been developing my system along the way.
Personally I think that we should create a 'plugin' standard if all writers of the existing software are in agreeance which will allow others to add functionality to the already well designed software.
All it needs is a small API for each app. I am hoping to be more active in the software development side of MP3Cars, I already have a few addons I'm in the process of designing and making, one being an Automatic File-sync tool for both wireless and wired systems which I will make fully available to the MediaCar, Voices and MediaEngine and *FRODOPLAYER* developers.
Regards

UK_MP3Car - you got a valid point there. Realistically, even if MediaCar (Cayotee, u need to come back from the dead), MediaEngine, Frodoplayer (there ya go) want and will stay closed source, if there was a direct interfacing system for plugins, they basically become everything I was thinking about with the Possibilities of Open Source.
We just need some movement going here, collaborated or not so everyone is capable of satisfy their creative thinking.
Now, my question is, are there any programmers out here who would seriously consider doing this besides me?

I'd certainly assist and help create plugins or even help to design the API required - I can't see it being a massive task myself - just look at the way winamp etc use plugins.
It makes sense to me anyway and seems a logical way forward for all Car-Players concerned.
