Been on the beta since the beginning, using it on about 10 test machines at work testing out sysprep, unattended installs, group policies, new firewall etc for months as will be rolling it out soon after the final SP2 is released.
RC2 (and the build in between RC1 and RC2) seems to be pretty close to perfect, only a few minor niggles left!

Any luck on getting it to work on "borrowed copies" of XP?

There was some issues whether it would or wouldn't work on stolen copies; last thing I read on the register was that it wouldn't

Guess I'll wait for the official release of SP2 and wait for a "workaround" to come out (like it did for Sp1). Thanks anyways.

Looks like carpc softare for linux is progressing, and Linux has all the 'improvements' of XP SP2 already and is free - you could give that a try?

I use Unix and Linux daily, put I prefer to run XP Pro on my PCs. I am installing SP2 RC2 as we speak. I have a feeling that the new v5 of windows update is going to keep denying me updates though. I'm sure I will be uninstalling SP2 later tonight.

The new protection in SP2 checks for a certain pattern in the key. There is a utility out that allows you to change your key to an SP2 compatible one. Just google for "SP2 Key Changer" or something to that effect. BTW, it is perfectly legal to change your cd key as well as generate new ones for yourself as long as you have a license to use XP. Many network admins including me use a generic corp. key for mass XP installs and it is perfectly legit as long as your have the paper licenses.

Update: Installed SP2 RC2 with no problems, even runs updates via the new v5 windowsupdate.com. Can't wait for an official release so I can update my slipstreamed sp1 install CD.

Yeah SP2 checks for popular corp keys, just like SP1 did, but it can be changed to a new key and work just fine, i'm running SP2 RC2 on my carcomp I like the new wireless applet. The built-in popup blocker in IE works quite well also.

RC2's not the latest anymore - they must have found a lot more problems with it!
We're now onto Build 2162 of the beta (RC2 being 2149)
