Stand-alone programs (no installation needed)

Hey. I want you guys to take a look at a thread that I started on another forum. I'm looking for programs that do not need to be installed. Stuff that can be thrown onto a memory stick and can be used right from there. Take a look at my list and let me know if there are any more that you know of. I will copy the other thread over here when I can take the time to code it properly (probably this evening).

Derek

Partially-coded copy:
I love programs that do not have to be installed in order to run. This is very useful when I have to go fix someone's computer. I like to run stuff right off of my memory stick. This way I don't have to install the program, do what I need to do, and then uninstall it. Anything that matches this ability please let me know.

EDIT: Everyone's posted have been added to this and I've added some more stuff:

Startup Control Panel Type: Startup Control Posted by: me Have I used: YES
http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

Startup Control Panel is a nifty control panel applet that allows you to easily configure which programs run when your computer starts. It's simple to use and, like all my programs, is very small and won't burden your system. A valuable tool for system administrators!

Startup Control Panel is compatible with all modern versions of Windows, including Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, NT 4.0, 2000, and XP.

Media Monkey Type: Audio player/management Posted by: me Have I used: YES
http://www.mediamonkey.com

Manage a music library consisting of small to very large collections of audio files and playlists, whether they're located on your hard drive, CDs, or a network. Organize, browse, or search music by Genre, Artist, Year, Rating, etc., and never waste your time trying to find mp3s you know you have.

MediaMonkey is the music organizer for the serious collector.

Note: MediaMonkey is made to be installed, however, it will run from a memory stick. Sometimes it will give an error or two but does not impair the usage of the program. Personally, this is my favorite media playing software.

HijackThis Type: Spyware Removal Posted by: simonalbert Have I used: NO
http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html

HijackThis is a tool, that lists all installed browser add-on, buttons, startup items and allows you to inspect, and optionally remove selected items. The program can create a backup of your original settings and also ignore selected items. Additional features include a simple list of all startup items, default start page, online updates and more. Intended for advanced users.

CWShredder Type: Spyware Removal Posted by: simonalbert Have I used: NO
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

A small utility for removing CoolWebSearch (aka CoolWwwSearch, YouFindAll, White-Pages.ws and a dozen other names). Spybot S&D and Ad-aware tend to forget essential parts of the hijack, so until they update, you can use this to completely remove the hijack. This program is updated to remove the new variants once they come out.

Audacity Type: Audio Editing Posted by: toe_twister Have I used: NO
http://audacity.sourceforge.net

Use it to edit your sounds using Cut, Copy and Paste (with unlimited Undo), mix tracks together, or apply effects to your recordings. It also has a built-in amplitude envelope editor, a customizable spectrogram mode and a frequency analysis window for audio analysis applications. Built-in effects include Echo, Change Tempo, and Noise Removal, and it also supports VST and LADSPA plug-in effects.

MetaPad Type: Text editor Posted by: theaddict Have I used: NO
http://liquidninja.com/metapad/

Metapad is a small, fast (and completely free) text editor for Windows 9x/NT/XP with similar features to Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features. It was designed to completely replace Notepad since it includes all of Notepad's features and much, much more.

EAC (Exact Audio Copy) Type: Audio Grabber Posted by: the addict Have I used: NO
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

Not much of a description available for this peice of software. To sum it up... it makes exact copies of audio off CDs. (theaddict believes this can be standalone; could be wrong though.)

Media Player Classic Type: Media player Posted by: simonalbert Have I used: NO
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/...r_classic.html

A multimedia player with a similar interface to Microsoft Windows Media Player 6.4, but has many more features specific for DivX playback.

nPOP Type: Email Posted by: rean Have I used: NO
http://www.nakka.com/soft/npop/index_eng.html

TCPview Type: Port scanner Posted by: toe_twister Have I used: YES
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/tcpview.shtml

TCPView is a Windows program that will show you detailed listings of all TCP and UDP endpoints on your system, including the local and remote addresses and state of TCP connections. On Windows NT, 2000 and XP TCPView also reports the name of the process that owns the endpoint. TCPView provides a more informative and conveniently presented subset of the Netstat program that ships with Windows.

BGInfo Type: Utility Posted by: d_sellers1 Have I used: YES
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/bginfo.shtml

How many times have you walked up to a system in your office and needed to click through several diagnostic windows to remind yourself of important aspects of its configuration, such as its name, IP address, or operating system version? If you manage multiple computers you probably need BGInfo. It automatically displays relevant information about a Windows computer on the desktop's background, such as the computer name, IP address, service pack version, and more. You can edit any field as well as the font and background colors, and can place it in your startup folder so that it runs every boot, or even configure it to display as the background for the logon screen.

Because BGInfo simply writes a new desktop bitmap and exits you don't have to worry about it consuming system resources or interfering with other applications.

Process Explorer Type: Utility Posted by: d_sellers1 Have I used: YES
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr.../procexp.shtml

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

ISOBuster Type: CD Utility Posted by: d_sellers1 Have I used: YES
http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster/

This program does a lot with ISO images and other stuff. Take a look at the webpage to see what all it can do. Current verssion is 1.5. I've been using version 0.9.6.
