ResourceHacker Routis or Iguidance?
Has anyone messed aroudn with resourcehacker-ing on Routis or Iguidance? When run at 800x600 on a 7" screen the buttons are just flat-out too small, the text is all too small, the road widths are too narrow, the street name labels are too small, etc..
It's like routis wants to be run on a screen that is like 400x300 (which makes sense because it was designed with pocketpc in mind too)
Alternatively, if someone knows of a screen magnifier app that would scale the whole thing up like 2x the size, that would also be awesome!

If you have XP you can try this....right click on the shortcut Routis. Click Properties, then click the Compatibility tab. Check the "Run In 640x480 mode" box. This will force Routis (or any other exe.) to run at 640x480. On the Lilliput 7" it makes everything a bit easier to read and touch.

I did make some progress on this. I managed to make a lot of the "menu" type screens have bigger fonts and buttons, but that's about the extent of it.. I could not make the map draw thicker lines or reposition the onscreen keyboard buttons.. Too bad.. would have been nice.

Well, the problem is even though the buttons are bigger, their positions are not driven by the resources, so there's not an easy way to change them.. Thus even though the buttons are bigger, they are in the same places, and because of that, the enlarged buttons simply have the effect of looking bad while they render the app almost unusable.. The only screens that really benefited from the change were the Cancel/OK nag at the beginning (routislauncher kills this anwyay) and the settings screen (which has the big buttons anyway)..
To really hack this properly, you'd have to trap the GDI calls that routis makes and do something different with them. That is beyond my ability.

Yeah, trapping GDI calls... not an easy task. iNavcorp is aware of the problem, and they are working on a fix for laptop users for more configurability of size in thier app.

The real people to talk to about the problem would be Intellinav as they produce the actual software that drives Routis, IGuidance, and several of the other GPS packages... They have a really good product for the pocketpc -- shame it doesn't translate well onto the laptop
