On second thought, I may go the RF route, that way I can mute her without having a direct line of sight.

I dunno man... Coding always seems to get a good deal easier the more beer I get in me... Of course, there's always the "what the HELL was I thinking when I did that anyhow?" syndrome to get around the next morning...

And just so this post isn't completely OT: I'll run naked down my street when someone bothers making a mediaplayer in that MenuET OS ... But I'll do that anyway after a few VBs with my VB
(Haha couldn't resist - surprised you missed that OdyseeyPC )
(Oh and for the non-Aussies; one of our national beers is called VB, for Victoria Bitter. Not as funny now that I explain it though )

paid os's?
If you guys are still discussing Paid OS's, what do you call the enterprise versions of linux distos? Like Mandrake Enterprise, Redhat, etc? If they are selling them, does that make them worth it, even the home edition is basically the same thing? Or what about Apple's OS's? Like OS X, it runs on Unix, and so there is a lot of GNU liscenced software out there for it, and Apple is a major Supporter of Opensource, so is HP/Compaq, and IBM. I guess what I dont understand, is when unix was created, and then linux, caldera. err. i mean, the SCO group tried to sue users, because They own unix, and it didnt work, doesnt that mean there is more of a support group, with more people using linux, because they can make it do what ever they want? I dont know, I guess, I think the MenuET thing is cool. Because when you do the programming, you can call it YOURS.. You dont have to pay for a liscence to use it. .. my .. umm.. half a cent worth.

Here's the thing. Windows is widely used, and standardized. Linux, and all of it's distributions, are little better than a bowl of Count Chocula. What I mean is that Linux has some great potential, but it's all "sugared" up with all these different people trying to give it a unique look, and everyone else is striving to include the "best" application set with it.
When it comes down to it, all those people do is trip over themselves. There isn't much similarity between the Linux distributions, except for the kernel itself. Beyond that, the apps included, and the file layout itself, is usually sufficiently different to force users to compile their new apps from scratch, which is NOT all that easy if you aren't familiar with the *nix family.
Now UNIX, that's a very sweet and powerful tool, because like Windows, it's STANDARDIZED. What works for OpenBSD will work for FreeBSD, and will also work with other distros, without having to recompile every cotton-picking thing. You mentioned Apple's OSX, but it doesn't just run on Unix, it IS Unix. (FreeBSD to be exact). Apple changed the file layout a tad bit, but then, once everything was completed, they standardized it for the entire line. Now, whatever works on your iMac will more than likely work on my dual G5. Heh.
The question isn't so much about what's free and what's not. The question is when is someone going to get their act together and start cooperating on a single project? Yes, I believe Linux would be the perfect solution, and I would even buy a copy of it, if it weren't for one simple problem:
WHICH FIRGGING FLAVOR SHOULD I BUY????? They're all different, and some won't work with my hardware at all. Add to all of this the fact that I don't use Linux enough to be able to write or compile my own software for it, and the stage is set for another Windows user to simply fall back to what he knows will work.
Oh well. There's always hope for something else, but until I finish mastering Assembler, I can't contribute to Menuet. *sigh*

(And I'm not trying to jack this thread with a Windows VS Linux debate either, I'm trying to jack it with a profit motive VS altruism debate.)
you last statement is what i always try to tell people when we go into this OS war. Its all about money and as long as there is NO profit in Linux, it will NEVER succeed unless MS does something very stupid. Ohh btw me and you seem to think alike though i think you are at a much higher level...keep it comming.
