XMPCR is dead...
Well it looks like XM PCR is finally dead. All units went on clearance over the past couple weeks at the average price of 14.00. You can not find one anywhere and when Miked talked to some of the high ups about 3 weeks ago they said the market demand had not been high enough to keep it around. The latest news about the legality issues with the software from Nerosoft has been the nail in the coffin so to speak.
Others when talking to XM reps have gotten BS responses like the Software we provide is not very upgradeable and so we are closing the doors on the entire project.
We were supposed to have a meeting with the tech execs in Boca Raton FL about the possibility of keeping it around if we could prove a market for it. I think I can speak for most people here that this is the market for such a device. We are thinking of even going as far as creating a petition site... maybe see if we could get the mp3car.com name behind it and get some enough signatures to keep it alive. Maybe a no win situation... any comments?

I saw they were on sale at xmfan and bought two additional units. I hope this doesn't mean your going to kill the XM tuner part of your project....I can tell you I for one am really looking forward to using it. I just got my optical adapter installed and it sorta works great. I am planning on moving it to my car as soon as possible.

That'll sick if it goes away. I just bought a unit not to long ago. I would sign a petition to keep it around.

Damn... I was just about to buy one so I could add XM functionality to my software. Anyone want to sell theirs?

about three weeks ago I spoke with the VP of Sales/Marketing and was told that they were going to discontinue the XM PCR next year.... now three weeks later you cant purchase one new anywhere.... with the potential lawsuits from the creation of the TimeTrax software, im assuming they are speeding up the process of discontinuing the product to cover there arses from RIAA

Well this sucks....my XM-PCR is the best part of my carputer. I really hope they do not discontinue service of currently active XMPCR's. I don't know that mp3car.com would have any clout with XM since they only market the XMPCR for home/computer use. I'm sure there are legal concerns marketing the XMPCR for a car. So what is the deal with Nerosoft? and how does that effect the XMPCR?

it allows you to record off the xm perfectly edited mp3's ...ie if you left on the software all night it would fill a folder up with perfectly edited mp3's with ID3 tags and all....pretty cool, but a major concern for the RIAA and XM

yea, I get it now.
I never recorded anything from my pcr, but of course i will be penalized for what ohers have done. How can we get every person in the US to stop buying new music cd's for seven days. If we did that the RIAA would probably die of apoplexy. Just think about it, NO new CD sales for a week. After all the people that work at record shops lost their jobs, the RIAA might sit up and actually try to appear to care about the people who give them their money.

I just got off the phone with XM. They said that the XMPCR is not currently discontinued.
So until we get confirmation from XM directly that it has been, these are just rumors.
