Different BIOS boot logo screen

Just been playing with my Epia M10000 Bios.. I've manged to change the first boot up screen, instead of showing the normal Via Epia logo it now shows a small BMW logo in the middle.. just makes it look more stock :-)

I have attached the altered bios image.. its the latest one downloaded from epias site.. the original bios name was ' i0100113.BIN '. Just flashed it up with the normal award software (also attached). This might be a whole new crazy.. who knows :-)

REMEMBER :- DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.. IT WORKED ON MINE BUT FLASHING YOU BIOS IS ALWAYS RISKY !!!!

Bios file - HERE

Nice! I edited mine to just black, but after seeing that I might be tempted to make it say ford!

Is this just as easy to do with a Via C3-V8000 board. Which file do you edit?

ok.. I assume you can do it on all epia boards..

Remember if you f*** it up.. you will have a dead board.

The first thing I did was download the latest bios from epias website for my board and the awdflash util as well.

Then I went to http://www.blackfiveservices.co.uk/awbmtools.shtml and got his conversion tools.

I then created a 640x480 image in photoshop.. (keeping it small for size reasons)
changed the image mode to index, and saved it as a .tif then I used his tools to convert it into a logo.bmp.. If you dont get a logo.bmp when you try and convert your tif must not be saved right.

I then downloaded CBROM215 from http://www.stormpages.com/crazyape/cbrom.html

I used this then to put the logo.bmp into the bios file.

thats about it really. I was very carefull not to make ANY mistakes and went over it twice just to make sure. I also used the AWDMOD from http://sourceforge.net/projects/awardmod/ to make sure it all looked right before I flash it... I cant stress strongly enough that this file MUST be right, otherwise its a dead board time.. not good.

If you need any more info let me know

cheers

Steve

Playing with your bios is a risky bussiness. But if anything goes wrong there is a way to recover :

There is an easier non-obtrusive way to do it. Search for a program called Stardock BootSkin. Install the program and load as many bootscreens into the program as you want. Pick a screen, it loads, reboot and for here on out you will have whatever bootscreen you want without messing with your bios. Oh, the program is free

Not sure if this logo will be there during BIOS init. You still have to write something to flash for that...
