MP3's bass is too flat
Hey guys and girls
Have anyone noticed the huge diffrence from one mp3 to annother, the amount of bass of the encoding? It seems only a few mp3z are encoded well enough for them to sound rich in bass like original cds. I'm not talking about the bitrate either, some 128kbps have more bass and richer sound than some 192kbps. Is there a program out there that can re-encode mp3z with higher bass amplitude? Any solution to this problem would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks

Some encoders are crap, basically. I've come across AWFUL sounding MP3's at 192kbps. So bad I've had to chuck em! They had whistling in the high frequencies, distortion, all sorts of rubbish that the original "owner" obviously didn't notice/care about.
Not sure you can re-encode and actually gain quality. It doesn't really work like that. You'd need the original source.

Get the original CDs, and re-rip them to 192kbps (preferably higher) using the LAME codec.
That's the only way to make sure that everything will be in top condition

Better yet, encode everything in OGG. OGG doesn't cut out the BASS... or anything like MP3 does.

its also free and in my opinions is far superior to MP3 quality and at a smaller file size.
Not as widely used though therefore harder to find compatabilty with some progs..right now

Thanks
i use sound edit pro on a Mac in my previous company (working with multimedia on the mac is sooo easy, powerful, and straightforward ), since i resigned i don't have access to mac anymore. in my pc i use wavelab audio processor. you have to work on .wav file, you can only do so much with normalization but if the bass is crap, you can only tweak it at some point. in my experience the best way to encode mp3 is to start it from a good source like original cds. i have downloaded a few mp3s with higher bit rate, i normaly tweak it in wavelab and encode it down to 128bit for hdd space reason, afterwards you can't tell the difference.

alot of mp3s are crap, unless you rip em your self or the person did it right, ive messed with wmp lossless, wav, roxios built in ripper, and had some good results, at the expense of disk space. i also belive winamp to be a low-quality player, and i use wmp9, just my opinion though. also i belive free, software based eq's are mostly crap that add distortion. i would make sure you are not using multiple software eq's too, it turns low quality mp3s into real ****.
