readonly windows setup on a hard disk

ok here is aloaded question for you as in the 10yrs i have been working on and building computers i have never thought about doing this exepte pure dos is kinda like this principle but i thought may be someone had tryed this before i say i set up a copy of 98 to run as if off a cd you guys think there would bbe any problems with running it like that from the hard disk and simply killing the power the the computer i know if souldn't damage the drive but was hoping someone had tryed this before i was worried about file corruption

For WinXP, search forums for EWF. For Win9X, there is a way to run it off the ramdrive.
