Where did you buy it? Off the Delorme website, or someplace cheaper?
How many CD's is it?

Because I am a regular contributer to the Delorme retirement fund, they sell me the new versions for $30.
I am not sure how much I like the RWE. There are a lot of menus on the display (no problem on 1000x800 17" ish displays, big problem on small 4" displays.
My only real complaint is that you have to use some buttons on the side to zoom in and move around easily.
Other mapping programs allow the use of the scroll wheel (or page up page down) to zoom in, and double clicking to get the map to recenter.
If RWE lets you do that, I haven't figured it out yet.
Okay final complaint, the voice is too soft. I have all the sliders turned up and I can barely hear the guy...but the windows beep about blows the windows out.
On the otherhand the Rand mcnally program is a processor hog that likes to crash.
The End

I have to agree, I've got the RWE, and it was rather dissapointing. I was expecting something better set up for in-car navigation, but this mostly seems to be for those people who have a laptop in the car AND a passenger. Nobody could use those little side buttons and tabbed menus along the bottom while driving, let alone with a 4-5" screen. Most people with 4-5" screens will also want to be at 640x480 resolution (or lower!) and this program really can't even fit all it's menu's in unless you run at 800x600. That's a real dissapointment since the regular street atlas 8 would fit in 640x480 much better.
Anyway, I'm a but upset with this product, but it's mine now... Maybe I can make some macros for the important parts...

I kinda like this app... even though it doesn't fit very well on the screen at 640X480. Since I have used all the "affordable" GPS applications out there ( Mappoint 2001, Street n Trips 2001, Streetfinder 2000, StreetAtlas USA 8) out of all those, only Mappoint , streetntrips and Delorme RWE allows you to read street names.
Since Mappoint and Streetntrips are pretty much the same, and the GPS support REALLY SUCKS on these apps... My only choice is RWE. I haven't implemented the mic to use the voice direction commands yet but when I have time i will find a way. There are keyboard commands for zooming in and out. I can't recall but if you look around the app it will tell ya. Right now through IRMAn and IRassistant I can open the app, start the GPS, zoom in and out, scroll through the map, etc... there are lot of other functions which I think are pretty neat. Until something better comes out im sticking with this =)

moahdib: i have been playing around with the app. U can prolly save some of ur keys by playing around the settings in registry. I have descovered the scale/zoom thing in registry. Also how does it look on your 5.6" screen. Can u read the text? Before i start hacking this app, i will like some feedback.

I would say the app looks pretty damm good. I can clearly read the street names and the GPS support is awesome in my opinion. The zoom function is as good as mappoint 2001 or streetn trips 2001,....same thing....anyway, with the zoom function, the voice recognition and spoken directions... I am definitelly sticking with it for now. It works fine with my GPS receiver as well so no complaints =)
The only thing that ****es me off is that the app was not meant to be run at 640X480. I can live with that tho =)
Until something better comes up..I like this the most so far.

I have to agree that once it is up and running you can set it up to show you the next turn, distance and time. That display is huge...designed for small screens.
Tell me more about mods you folks have done to set it up.

abcd,
If you DO start hacking up the RWE app, I'd be really curious what you figure out. I'm tempted to start tearing it apart myself, but I want to finish my video capture app first.

wizardPC: I have the Metro Guide GPS the receiver works very well but the software that comes with it is old. It works but there is better stuff out there. on a 5" screen you can't read the streetnames and it is a pain to use except just watching where you are on a moving map. Plus its 9 CDs. With 9 CDs I would expect details map but when I checked the town I grew up in, it was missing major streets. I couldn't even find the street I lived on for 19 years of my life. One nice thing is you can copy the cd over to the HDD and have the whole US right there. (Oh yeah each CD is like 200MB why they didn't combine them is beyond me.
