Post Running Winamp On Startup

How do I run Winamp and not Explorer on startup? There is a way. I've seen it before but I forgot how.

Change your shell to winamp in system.ini

Thanks. Do you know how you make it start up with a playlist?

You can put the m3u file for your playlist (or a shortcut to the m3u file) in your startup folder; however, I don't know if this will work if you're running Winamp as your shell. I have read on this site that some people obtained significant boot time reductions by running Winamp as the shell. I tried it and noticed no significant reduction. Plus it's a bit inconvenient; having explorer around is kind of nice when you want to do things. I would definitely get and run 98Lite, though. There's a lot about it in previous posts.

If you're running Winamp as shell you can always push Ctrl+Esc to get the run command, type explore and load explorer when you need it.

To run a playlist at startup, just add it to
the system.ini file like so.....

shell=c:\winamp\winamp.exe myplaylist.m3u

Enjoy

ItaliaAW: yes, i think under win.ini. Add it to load=c:\remotecontrol\remote.exe
or what ever the exe is. Also there is a place in registry you can add the startup items. I don't remmember where it is. I am sure someone in here knows or you can search through MS homepage.

To do this with he registry you open up regedit, goto HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr ent Version\Runservices

Add the string there. There are other similar folders there like 'runonce' that if you use them your program will run the next time you reboot but never again on startup (Hence the name)

Anyway, to add the string Click edit, New, String Value, Name the string whatever and open the new string.
Then put the path in (Such as C:\mpxplay\mpxplay.exe) and reboot your computer to see if it worked.

If you are new to the registry (Or not) I would suggest backing up the registry before changing anything. It's alot nicer to just restore the Registry than it is to rebuilt your box!
