I have the same problem. Can't do graphic arts too well. I love red on black, but it's just not good enough on the LCD. I found that yellow on black is much more vivid. Also, browsing through about 1000 winamp skins can be inspiring too.

porting questions
does your software library, once the serial port is established to the v1 (i'm presuming through the usbmod3 drivers), just make regular serial calls? i'm considering porting the v1 software for unix-based systems. just trying to get as much info as possible before diving into it. if i did, do you think either you or jim would provide me with frame information in order to parse the data coming in off the serial port? i think i already have the function needed for mute done (switching DTR on/off), just from screwing around with a usb-serial adapter and a multimeter.
good job on the schematic. are you considering getting PCBs made? would you care if somebody did to make the soldering easier? i noticed the futurelec people offer a pcb production service as well.
sorry for so many questions. good work, keep it up!!

Didn't see the .lib file, oops. Are all the calls in it POSIX? I'd like the library to be available to Mac users as well. I'm aware from sorting through the freediag project's code that there are linux-specific serial calls that won't port over to the Mac.

I guess it would depend on the price breakdown, i have been looking around for some places, and have found some that aren't too bad. I would also depend on who wants a kit, and who wants a fully built and assembled one.

zPilott: do you think you could hook up with jim to join forces? I already built a serial interface that works with jims software but you said you didnt want to put in effort, to make a serial work. But i built the interface for under $5 of parts which is a lot cheaper than the usbmod3 at $25. Maybe jim could help you with the serial. And you could help him with his software. I think it is the beginning of a beautiful friendship that all of us could profit from....

If I get some time this weekend, I can try to get it to work using the serial interface (the usbmod also has virtual serial drivers, and I can program to that). The differences shouldn't be all that big.
However, right now I am working on a skin, which is taking up my time....
