Looking for Front End

Well, I e-mailed Frodo, hoping he could help out with a forum specifically for this, but he has not responded.

I have used frodo, and am Quite happy with it. However, I have some needs that I can't seem to be able to get answered, and reading all of the Front End Forums hasn't helped at all.

Specifically, I am looking for the following. I am looking for a front end that will allow the use of 2 sound cards. Frodo doesn't support it from what I can tell. Don't all front ends support multiple sound card you may ask. Well, true, I can put any amount of hardware into my system, but can it be utilized, and the answer is, not really. Unless, I find one that can.

I have determined that winamp has a setting to determine which sound card it outputs sound thru. If there is a Front end that has that same ability, that would be ideal. If not, a front end that uses winamp for the "backend" would be fine as well.(Mind you, that information is not readily available on the forum) I want to be able to have the Navi use one sound card, and the Front end use another, or at least the music play thru the second.

So, anyone know of any compatible front ends?

Thanx
Michael

there is no way you read all of the front end forum threads..... Road runner uses winamp as the back end.

And if it is Navigation notifications you want to come out of the second sound card, MapMonkey can do this using one of its plugins.

Why do you want a seperate sound car to handle the navigation voice for? I got mine all on the same soundcard and the voice just projects over the music, which is the same result you would get if you had 2 soundcards.

You are correct, I certainly did not read every thread in each forum. I actually meant to say that I read the Sticky part of the Front end forum Posted by the programmer, looking for the answer. I didn't see it.

I thank you for the information.

Or have the audio mute on the music to allow the voice to be heard over the music.

Thanx for your ideas, but the problem is, I already paid for Navi, and after looking at the Map Monkey stickies, felt it wasn't worth the hassle to deal with Maps and SDK's to setup.

Plus, looking at the thread, there have been so many issues with expiring Maps and SDK's, and all that. I am a user of SW, and if the easy to use and setup alternative is there, I will usually use it.

Thanx for the advice again,

First, I haven't been able to get that to work correctly in Frodo, because the Navi software controls the master wave volume, just like the front end.

Next, if by chance I am using the Radio on my car stereo, and not piping in the computer sound, I can't hear the voice prompts. What if I am listening to the news, or Radio disney for the kids, I won't be able to hear the computers voice prompts. With a seperate sound card, I can run a small external speaker under the dash, and hear all the prompts. I can also interface it in to the cell mute function of my stereo, so that the stereo mutes and I can hear the voice prompt. In this way I don't have to "Project" over the music, it will mute the stereo, and music even if it is coming from the computer, and the second speaker will provide the prompts.

Thanx
Michael
