Apple's iTunes-based Carputer frontend (Windows)
Is anyone doing something like this? If none, i think it would be a good frontend project to start with!
I myself am a programmer but have limited time and resources so if anyone would like to start a team, or maybe do this idea on their own even is welcome to post here! This would even be great for use with ipods, to synch home PCs to Car PCs, etc
Any thoughts?
There's a Windows iTunes COM SDK available here

man, wouldn't that **** the mac guys off though...
they are all in love with their mac minis for carputers but they don't have a decent frontend... i think they'd be pretty ****ed if the WINDOWS guys got a good frontend going based on iTunes before they did...

Hmmm. So blame mac users for someone not writing a front end.
Blame mac users because no one wanted to take the time to write one...
Blame mac users because the mini just came out and sparked a few people into putting them into their cars, whereas before it was a smaller minority of people hacking up G4 towers and iBooks..
Blame mac users for having iTunes and making it a desireable point for windows carputers...
Blame mac users for not creating a front end based on itunes... WTF does that mean?
A front end PLAYS media, music being one part. If you meant to say design a skin like the itunes interface, go for it buddy. If you mean using the iTunes SDK, thats cool XCODE makes it much easier than Windoze to do.
All in all i dont know what you are talking about anyway.

I'm waiting for someone to do this. I wouldn't mind helping, but most of the software I write is of the embedded microcontroller variety, so I wouldn't know where to start.

Why not do something constructive and join one of the many teams that are already working on front ends. At least in the winbloze world I know of at least 3 decent front ends coming along great, so why are you going to start another one instead of adding to a great one...to be cool?

sdashiki, what is your problem with the whole mac thing? Why did you invade this thread so agressively? Chill out man...
I personally hate itunes on windows... it installs a bunch of cr#p on the system, and it is pretty slow compared to winamp and others...
what would be the benefits for an itunes frontend in windows? It might be possible to adapt road runner to use itunes since it is open source, but this would depend on how itunes can be controlled...

and all i said was why strike out on your own when joining a team is far more beneficial for all.
When you refer to someone with a mac as "mac guys" you are singling out people who just chose a different OS than you. So DONT YOU start talking shiite if you dont mean to ok? Fan boys always talk about PC vs Mac in the way you were going, if that wasnt your intent, say it differently. BAH im a whore.

Um, who is Steve Jobs?
again my point was, making this into a PC vs Mac this is stupid. YOU arent helping by saying that i was trying to get into an arguement....
original post was about iTunes, my rebuttal was stupid but he had to go and say OOOOG thatll **** the mac guys off, making an iTunes frontend for Windoze. Gimme a break man that was a stupid point to make and I didnt flame. So dont start flaming.
APPLE ROOLS!

The benefit is you could play iTunes purchased from the iTunes music store. I realize it's not very common, but I actually pay for music I buy and I do it through iTunes.
In order to render them playble on my car PC, I have to use Tunebite to convert them. It works, but is basically the equivalent of recording the output from a line jack. It would be much better if the front end would play it natively.
BTW, RR ought to be able to do this easily as the iTunes SDK consists of a COM architecture. I've toyed around a little bit with accessing it through VB and it works fine and is pretty easy. Of course, it launches iTunes in the background, so you have another app running.
