Windows Vista

Microsoft says it will call the next version of its operating system "Windows Vista" as it prepares to release a wave of new products after posting its slowest-ever year of growth.

Windows Vista, formerly known by its code-name Longhorn, is scheduled for a worldwide launch in the second half of 2006, five years after Windows XP, the longest time lag between releases of its flagship operating system that runs on nine out of 10 personal computers worldwide.

I doubt this will be going on my carputer anytime soon. Will supposedly use lots of 3d just to draw the desktop. I dont want it to bog down when its not going to give me any advantage over XP

I think that its only going to run on hardware with Trusted Computing technology, i plan to avoid it at all costs

If I am not going to update my hardware, I won't update my OS.
The only app that I more than willing to update is the GPS. Cuz I want the latest map and some new cool feature (if any).

but wont certain software cease to update for windows xp... for a while gps software will continue to support windows xp, but then wont they switch to only vista support.. other software too might follow

similiar thing happpened with windows 98, now less and less software support it and require windows xp.

Yes and you were expecting what? 5 years is actually pretty good, usually the turn over on computer technology is 18 to 20 months. By late 06 the hot setup will be all Dual Core stuff. I just hope they can stuff then Dual Core will migrate to Notebooks and then to the Mobos the size of Mini ITX and the like.

Whooopeeee.

Now if they can keep the power consumption under a kilowatt weez be in bid ness.
