Are you trying to install XP on one system then swap the hdd to a completely diffrent system? XP simply does not like that, its not like win98... you need to do a repair instal on the new machine (not repair console) if that is the case.

My understanding is that you re-install by booting from the windows cd, choose to install on your existing windows partition and when prompted choose "Repair existind install".

Problem is a driver you installed.
Boot in safe mode (f8) and remove the latest installed driver.
That should fix your problem!

For future reference, try support.microsoft.com. You should be able to figure out what the actual problem was.

Mad Ad is right here, XP installed standard drivers for your other system. If that system has another chipset on its motherboard than the system you want to use it in, you won't be able to start XP up in the destination computer unless you do a repair as Mad Ad described. It could be fastest and cleanest to do a complete reinstall of XP though... Nobody even mentioned that if you activated XP already, according to Microsoft's license agreement you have to buy another license to use in your destination pc ...
