iGMod project

Well, I decided that I might as well make a thread about what I have been putting my freetime into latley...

I am making a program which I hope will end up rolling all the hacks for iGuidance on the forums into one master program, and will redesign the interface for IG to be more car touchscreen friendly. So far, it does effectively what igSkinner did (with more stability and less configuration I think), and its intercepting the IG menus and replacing it with its own.

Heres some screenies:

(Note spelling isnt my strong point, I fixed vehicle )

When I am impressed enough with the redesigned menus, ill put out an alpha. Eventually I will have an installer that will do the double sound mod, possibly some resource editing, and some memory hacks discussed here and there, as well as a bunch of things I thought up myself that I think IG could use.

Anyways, just thought I would get the word out.

Edit: And to not blot out Ol33l s good program, one of the planned features is integration with SkinBedder as well, because that program just keeps getting better and better

if you need a beta tester im definatley game ... are you planning on hackin into the speed to make that larger
and to possibly make the distance to the next turn show up larger
these are 2 areas of ig that i feel donot meet the touch screen freindliness category

looks good so far im anxiosly awaiting a good solution for a more oem gps system which has caused a bit of a stumbling block for my project

I need to break into the memory to read the speed so I can make a sound for "returned to safe speed". It shouldn't be difficult to make a new speed indicator/turn indicator shortly thereafter. Assuming I find an effective way to make VB6 directly read the memory of other programs.

now if by that you mean that options for routing etc will be disabled above a certain speed. i agree with that but also disagree. common sense would be dont touch your gps when your going 80. (im dumb ill admit i have touched it from time to time) but thats why im not even installing my next version without voice control of some sort. while a returned to safe speed function may save a few lives (literally) voice control as of now still uses touch screen functions and there no way to differentiate.
and if i had a passenger there with me. they could check the map.

none the less i still think that function is definatly worth developing

IF thats what you meant by it at all

Actually, I meant the speed alert feature. Its quite accurate in my area with what the speed limits are, so I want a ding of some sort for when I was speeding to slow down.

I was thinking about the disable interface at high speed thing (I plan on building my sister a carputer, and would hate if it caused her to get into an accident) but ultimatly thats an undesirable feature.

I would also like to beta test this for you if you need any help. IG definitely needs some help and this looks like a great addition. Email me ryanschilling@gmail.com if you need help. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

I have a OSK made for my phonebook application but am still working on a creative way to read the memory or the display for the list that is generated when you type onto the OSK.

Heres a screenshot of my current osk: http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/7256/oskalpha3ja.jpg Note that I plan on redesigning the look to be more uniform with the other menus and to include that previewed selected text from IG.

PURDooM: As an Ig user, this would be great. Having all the "hacks" in one "easy" to install/config file. Some of the Ig mods are a bit confusing at first (due to my non programing background) and where a big help.
A big concern for me atleast is the OSK & distance to the next turn bigger...That by itself would make Ig a great Nav program....
Thanks for all those countless hours you've put in so far and the ones your going to put....

OSK Completed, sitting and poking hex values in the EXE for a few hours didn't let me find what set the font size in the previewwindow to get larger. But heres the new working OSK:

The previewwindow is a proprietary control class called AfxWnd42s which is also used to render the favorites list and the recent destinations list. Does anyone know how to access the memory corosponding to a class object from an external program? If I can't get to that memory I am going to have to go with a ghetto automated zooming system to show favorites.

i'm using an app called tsearch now, it seems to be pretty good for finding values, takes a little getting used to, and you really have to know what your looking for

Wow, a dream come true! I'm going to 'watch' this thread. I hope you have something we can test soon. I absolutely love iGuidance, but the not-so-OEM look really is a turn off.

With something like this, we just might make it look factory. Awesome work, man!!!
