AIMEE Climate Control POLL

As you all may know the every impending release of AIMEE is only a matter of light years away....

Myself and Garry have been looking at possible features for future advances and

improvments in later versions,

one of those proposed features is a AIMEE controlled climate control system

What we need is some feedback to see who would be interested in such a system

Also to cater for everyone we need to know how your current Air Con / Climate Control

system currently works

As you know all manafactures do it there own way

So We need some feedback for the following options / configerations

Note:Tthe final product will come with full wiring and instructions to install
However some people will need external servos and mechanisms to control any mechanical parts of there stock system

Please Complete as appropiate

Any Comments or things we may need to know, please put in closed brackets at the end of the relevant line
================================================== =====================

Example:~

Vehicle = Mitsubishi FTO
Year 1995
Air Con = Yes
Climate Control = Yes

AIR CON
=======

Air Con Button = Yes

Climate control Button (Sometimes shown as AUTO) = Yes

RECIRCULATE
============

Recirculate button = Yes (Recirculates cabin air rather than use road air)

FAN SPEED SETTING
=================

Up and Down Buttons = Yes
8 positions

Rotary Switch with hard limit = No

Rotary Switch with no hard limit = No

Mechanical Slider = No

Electronic Slider = No

Note: Please complete number of positions for Fan adjustment

TEMPERATURE CONTROL
=====================

Temperature Range in degrees C = 17-30 in 0.5 Steps

Up and Down Buttons = No

Rotary Switch with hard limit = No

Rotary Switch with no hard limit = Yes
30 positions

Mechanical Slider = No

Electronic Slider = No

Note: Please complete number of positions for temp adjustment

VENT POSITON CONTROL
=====================

Number of positons = 5

Number of Vent buttons = 1 (I.e a Mode button that cycles through vent locations)

Rotary Switch with hard limit = No

Mechanical Slider = No

Electronic Slider = No

FRONT WINDSCREEN DEMISTER
==========================

As one of the Vent Postions = No

Button = Yes

Timeout = No

REAR WINDSCREEN DEMISTER
=========================

Button = Yes

Timeout = No

================================================== ==============

If there is anything i have missed please let me know so i can update my post

Cheers Guys

I would suspect that USB would work but I think that firewire would be much faster and give you better response in changing the temperature and fan speed.

Currently the prototype is RS232 controlled,

Hence a 9 way D Type Serial Cable

But you could also use a USB to RS232 Convertor to enabel USB access

Furture versions will be USB Controlled

The amount of data that is communicated is tiny so there will be no need for

Any high speed link (firewire / USB 2) etc

Dancehaven let me go out and say this, even though you didnt ask...

My using of Aimee or any other frontend is not based on Climate control. Although "nice" to have an integrated package I fear how complicated it would be to hook the whole thing up... I also understand a lot of moving around would be done and that I would lose my original control (possibly forever if I needed to hack it up/solder/desolder)...

I know you said FUTURE VERSIONS, but I sure as hell hope the release isnt being delayed because of adding this sort of thing...

These are always very true points to consider

To be able to complete such an install its no lie that you will need to be very competent with a soldering iron and have a good understanding of basic electronics, i.e swicthes and motors

And rest assured AIMEE is not been held back while we implement this feature mainly because its already implemented

its the hardware that is still work in progress hence why im gathering information

Has anyone actually looked at what is actually connected to the AC controls? Just to give you a heads up. Other than fan speed. Many vehicles use vacume lines, valves and cables to control Heat and AC. This is even true for many high end vehicles.

So without knowing preciesly what is under the dashboard, the answers to the guestions asked above could be very misleading.

Then you have other issues like dual zone, single zone, does the car have memmory settings for driver passanger? Does the system control the compressor and heating valves directly or is that processed by HVAC control unit?

Face it guys to make this work on anything other than your own vehicles you will have to have test vehicles at your finger tips from different models, manufacturers and years.

Either that or it will have to be a generic relay control hack that basically engages and disengages a relay bank at the touch of a on screen button. And that is already available. In addition it will still have to be a custom install for about every vehicle.

How do I know this? Because for I worked on Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Mercedes, Rover, and other imports as a professional mechanic for a number of years.

Very imformative post

But this ofcourse is what we have been researching for several months

Mastero has already created a standalone Climate control system using our

software. that is already in production and avaliable to buy

hes proven it to work on many vehicles and has based the design on that

fact

Obviously this isnt for everyone and only the super competent may consider

to undertake this install.

However the system will be super flexable to allow you to do this
