Ok, I'm impressed. I think I'll score one of these for my bumper cam

Totally possible by running multiple instances of the program.

Prefect: This is an awesome tool! I'm going to pick up an eyetoy in a couple minutes here! Do you think it will work well for capture high motion video, for example, from the front of a car and close to the road? Like in that first video you posted

I cant see it being better than a medium priced webcam.

thing is no comparative test exists, and when reviews get done, none are done in low light its just some fat geek waving to his friend at another desk and comparing the quality under office lighting conditions.

lez: i had 6 webcams now and tested them all in my carpc. the eyetoy cam was the best. and it is cheaper than a medium prices webcam!

right now i still use the 10$ cam with the vimicro chip because my girlfriend wants to play eyetoy kinetics with the ps2 camera ;-)

Arrow

@All: New Version: Capture!.zip

New Option in the config.ini: CapturePreview = 1

This will activate the video-preview while recording. The status-pane and the background image will not be necessary any more. In the status-bar the info for the capture-size and remaining minutes will alter every 3 seconds.

Now you can also name your background image "background.jpg".

@fliplap: hmm high-motion is not so easy to record in a good quality. The eyetoy is capable of recording "sharp" 30 fps, but you have to try with your carpc and video-codec how it will look in the final video.

very cool ill have to check out the new version
is there any chance we could have a video "buffer" meaning it would always record while in this mode but automatically erase or rewrite over the file(s)

Example 1
# = recording
- = not recording

######accident occurs#####(button presed)##########

final file1
######accident occurs###############

__________________________________________
Example 2
# = recording
- = not recording

------Accident occurs(Button pressed)################

final file 2
------Accident occurs################
__________________________________________

i doubt my adding the digrams helped much but if there is a video buffer then if anything interesting happens the file can be saved rather then automatically disguarded

for example you could specify how bi of a buffer you would want and simply record mpg1 (250megs)
if file 1 = 250 megs record file 2
if file 2 = 250 megs record file 3
if file 3 = 250 megs record file 4
if file 4 = 250 megs re-record file 1

and so on now depending on how many layers of buffer you have all you need to do is hit stop recording or have a button to open this loop and continue whichever file it is on (just like in normal mode)
this was mentioned by tj a while ago i believe
is it doable?

@lostreception: most of the functions you (and I) need for this are already implemented. i think example 1 is what the tool does right now.

only the ringbuffer (after file 4 delete file 1 and record over) is not implemented so far. but as you can see some pages bevore i have planned that already :-)

for me, it works very well to record continous, and press stop after something interesting has happened. with only 4gb of free space i can record every time i drive for about a week (4 hours of driving). after that, i move all the files over to my home pc (or delete them).

i still think about how to implement the ringbuffer function... the best solution for me is to monitor the free space on the harddisk (as i do already) and delete the oldest .avi file in the folder if it drops below 100mb or so.

would that be sufficient?

Hey Perfect, can you confirm the model number for the camera? I got the drivers for model 315, but whenever I load amcap, or Capture! I only see one frame, as a still shot....

that should work also if we can specify the amount of freespace we want to allocate would be good too id like to have the video availible only in case of emergency but not take up a huge amount of diskspace . i will monitor beginning at startup but will likely only view the logs when something interesting happens so
btw i still need to fully look at the newest version
thanks for the great program

@RoyN: The model numbers are "SLEH-00030" and "SLEH-00031".

Here is what the readme.txt of the drivers-package says:

Quote:
Instructions below are for Windows XP. You can try with other operating systems if you have to. Have your XP CD handy - you may need to install files from the I386 folder on that CD. First you need to check the serial number on the camera - look on the lable under the camera for either SLEH-00031 or SLEH-00030. If no lable is there don't worry.

plug the camera into a USB port. When Wizard appears, choose lower option, then next screen choose to search/browse, point Wizard to the folder that matched the serial number of your camera. follow prompts. when done RESTART YOUR PC !!!. if installation quits suddenly, point Wizard to the other folder and retry install.

AMCAP.EXE is the preview software. i suggest you try Willing Webcam instead.

Disregard my email mate, i'm going to check model number in a bit... (car is in the office garawge, and Im upstaris.... lazy....)

anyways, i was using amcap merely to check if the drivers were working correctly, or if the provlem was isolated in your prog (needless to say it is the drivers for now acting up...)
