I see your concern as all of the software is dirt cheep and I mean cheep! 80 bucks for Microsoft Office? I would be a bit suspicious. Ah what the hell, buy Windows Xp for 70 bucks then go to the update website and do the genuine product verification and see what it does, if it works then youve found an excellent site for us. If it fails then report it to Microsoft, and your copy still works or your out a nominal fee. If you dont ever actually get a product shipped to you, then call your credit card company and reverse the charges. Not very much risk really. Hope this point of view helps.

i've never purchased from that exact site, but from others just like it, the software is real. It's just OEM which means they send you a IDE cable and saying you bought it with hardware so you qualify for the OEM price. But of course you don't get tech support with the software.

sketchy

I'm going to go out there and say "SKETCHY" http://www.whois.net/whois.cgi2?d=ht...disks-ltd.com/
Take a look at the whois, I mean the site is on a russian server? Also take a look at the updated date. 9-23-05 (that was a week ago) and the actual creation date which was a few months ago. Also in the main interface of the page they have a "testimonials" button right in the main interface. Trying to assure you that its a legit site.

To further my case, the page has no HTML title. I don't know any webstore that wouldn't put a title on thier page. Because thats the main thing search spiders look for, for proper catergorizing the website.

I'd say someones stealing your credit card info.... I wouldnt even go through the hassle to try and save a buck.

Looks like a startup. If it's legit that looks like a good price.

I like my hard disk though

Since DSP software is used for building large computer systems, it does not go with any COA.

Using the same Russian brain the site's administrator is using, here's what I think:
At the worst case scenario, the guy has downloaded/developed a KeyGen for the software he's "selling" and duplicated the entire collection. Without the use of COA's and original boxes, and with a cheap single-page manuals (FAQ-Products #1), all of the above could be sold as a "legit package."

At best, it could be another example of what jcdillin said:

Either way, I try to refrain from purchasing anything outside the U.S. and so far it had saved me headaches and problems (such as I.D. thefts).

muldrick, let us know if you buy from them after all...

No, after seeing you guys' responses...No thanks.
I also saw somewhere on the site that you can't do updates, all the more reason to think it's not legit.
I appreciate your inputs, I think I saved some money by NOT purchasing there.

Get your software from a student website. Many companies have huge discounts for students.

DJiK, just please clarify if you may how you got to the conclusion (what proof do you have) that you have saved yourself from headaches by purchasing solely from US websites?

Also, do you think that ID theft happens solely outside the US?

Your post might be misleading other users into a flase sense of security... if you are a wanker you WILL get trolled on the net... if you are reasonably intelligent it is more likely that you will NOT get scammed... purchasing from the US or the UK or France or Gabon (assuming web retailers exist there) carries with it the same risk....... lets not be fooled.... Serious webstores and malicious scammers exist everywhere.

Your ID might be used by a person overseas merely because it is harder to get caught, but it is just as likely to be stolen by malicious parties IN the US...

Buy at your Own Risk.

RoyN,

I've never implied that your identity can't be stolen while purchasing in the U.S.. The reason I said I personally don't buy from outside the U.S. is because there's normally more to deal with (currency exchange rate, customs, longer/delayed shipping, etc.).
On the other hand, of course, if you're located outside of the U.S., you may not have a choice and probably wouldn't care as much about where you buy your goods from (be it USA, UK, or even Russia). All in all, I was just stating my opinion and my online purchasing practice.

As for the Russian thing and why I wouldn't trust it as much:
Well, here at home we're subscribed to two Russian channels that generally broadcast directly from Moscow. There are at least 2-3 daily shows that talk about "Criminal Russia" of these days. They reveal new & clever scams that take place in there all the time. These scams include the automotive industries, general hardware manufacturing, property, investments, computer related, online marketing services, and so on and so forth... And since generally Russians are poor, the scammers target foreign countries (and their people).
The second reason why I won't trust this transaction is because there are Tons of Russian Warez websites that offer software, music, and movies over HTTP and FTP servers, as well as Password Protected files over the P2P networks.

Most of us here have CD Burners in our cars, which means that it isn't too difficult to duplicate a CD, run a Key Generator, stick a printed CD Key label on the back of a soft sleeve, and add a cheesy one-page manual to the package, all while sitting in a Drive-Thru of some Burger Joint.

Viola!
U.S. Dollars... Here we come!
