Watching Machine - Shutdown server when CarPC out of Network Range.

Hey guys.

Been working on something for my setup and figured it might be of use to other peeps.

First my setup. I want to sync my CarPC with my desktop's media files. All when and good but to do this properly I have to park the car, run in, tunr my desktop on and run back oout and then start syncing. Or leave my desktop on and sync before I go out. This means my machine can be on for a while (since I tend to go out for whole days at a time). Messed around with some auto shutdown software but didn't like it all that much cos it would either stay on for too long or shutdown b4 I had finished. So i thought i'd write my own.

Its a little utility you can run b4 u set off to ur car. U set the name of the machine you want to look for initally which is then saved for later uses. U set the delay before it tries to shutdown and then click go. Timer counts down. You get in car and start syncing. Timer runs out. It then pings the IP address of the CarPC. If its successful it doesn't shutdown and checks again in 5 ses. If it fails, turns the server off. Pretty simple, but it works for me, and maybe will do for some of u guys. If u wanna change the name of the machine to look for you can either double click the "name" box which will show all machines on your current workgroup, or just type it in - eg. "CarPC01". No help file cos its simple.

Oh you can also just set it to shut down in a fixed amount of time without checking. Just thought I'd mention it...

Any questions or suggestions, ask away!

So given that the only two responses have said that they thought it was called "washing machine", do you reckon I should change the name then? lol
