XPort proble

I'm having a bit of a problem with XPort. It does not remember what COM port my GPS is attached to. I removed and reinstalled my CarPC last week, and when I hooked everything back up the COM port for the GPS changed (it's a USB device, and uses an internal USB->RS232 converter). When I run XPort, it defaults to no selected COM port. If I use the drop-down and select COM5 (the port the GPS is on, and the only port that shows up), everything works fine until the next time I reboot.

Ideas?

Dave

Okay, so nobody has any idea why xport is failing. So I'll switch gears and ask a different question -- anybody know of a good alternative to xport that has the same functionality?

Thanks,
Dave

try moving XPort to a different folder. That'll force it to start fresh.

Are you sure that your GPS does not switch ports every time you reboot? I know this was an issue with USB->RS232 dongles. They redetect every time, and therefore get a new port number.

That worked for me. I renamed the folder, and then when it came up next, the "Enable Service" checkbox was enabled. So I unchecked it then, and re-checked it, and all is well with the world again.

Thanks for your help. I was getting kinda frustrated, I could not figure out where XPort was storing the persistent configuration.

Luckily it seems to be stable as long as I don't move it around. The problem occured because I took the CarPC out of my car to do some maintenance, and I did not record what USB port everything was connected to.
