auto id3 tags?
im working on archiving all of my cds and obviously i dont want to type in all the data....im using EAC and LAME to do the ripping and encoding, so all the filenames come out good. but the tags are empty. is there anything i can use to add the tags automatically using something like CDDB. i read some of the old posts and i know there are programs that you can use that are based on the file name, but i dont want filenames that are 100's of characters long. yeah i being picky, but i figure i should have everything the way i want it... right!
thanks all.
~mike
EDIT:
allright, i found a program on download.com:
Tag&Rename 2.0.2
it is ok, but i am still looking for something that will do it automatically when i do the encoding (or after).

I know Mp3 Tag Tools can read the filenames and insert the ID3 tags based on them, then you can use it to clean up the filenames. There is also a program called MoodLogic that will scan your MP3s and connect to a database, and fill in your ID3 tags base on DSP. It is pretty accurate for common songs (ie CDs), but is pretty useless when it comes to remixes and such.

I dont have a solution for ya (I dont use ID3 tags AT ALL - do things the good old manual way!) but I love your choice of ripper and encoder.... I use the same setup!

I use CDEX and LAME. it has an option of connecting to CDDB and saving the mp3's in a userdefined format according to the info it recieves. Also can save the ID3 tags as it rips (both v1 and v2)

hornet....
is that id3 tag part of the encoding (LAME), and i am using the --r3mix encoding options (VBR, Joint Stereo, ETC.). is the id3 tag writing a seperate option, or is it "de-selected" when running the encoding options that i am using? if you dont know the answer, dont worry, i will check it out this evening when i get home from work.
yeah i know im gonna get flamed for the joint stereo option... but read the info on this site, check out the "quality" link on the left and then about half way down the page is "why joint stereo". if you can convince me otherwise, let me know, im always willing to learn!!!

OK. Here is my two cents...
I "added" the feature to rip, from within Windows Media Player, to MP3 using the Radium Codec. WMP will download most of the song info and album cover. Then I use MP3 Explorer to add the rest of the info I like to have.
May not be the best but it works for me...

ok. i don`t have internet on my home computer, so i downloaded the whole of the cddb database, and installed it on my home system... Once i have used EAC + LAME to get the mp3's, i feed them to mp3tag (theres a link to it in the software section of www.freedb.org , also the database can be downloaded from here).
Once i have found the album in the database (windows search + ultraedit), i tell MP3tag the disc code, and mp3tag does all the tagging and renaming you could ask for. It`s not totally automated, but it saves a lot of typing
The best part is that you can do this to any album, even if you ripped ages ago, forgot to tag, etc. etc.
You have to know the name of the artist and album tho.
If you try this, and need help, just ask

I think the id3 saving is an option within CDEX the program i use to rip thje tracks. I dont run any command line stuff to encode any thing.
