Just another friendly tip. this may be a one time thing but possibly worth the effort. I noticed if the config.ini file is damaged the program wont run. You can simulate this by saving a blank config.ini file.
Well my system didn't hibernate correctly and the config.ini file got damaged. I had to restore from a back up. In a car this could get cumbersome so I created a fix.bat file to automate it. Maybe you could add some code to restore to defaults if the file becomes corrupt..Just a thought. Again Love the program, hope you can look in to my issues thx man!!!

Hi,
I stopped working on this project a short while ago (about a year). When I get home I will crack open the code and have a browse through for you. A little donation wouldn't go amiss if you want a bit more haste

You can be assured the donation is in order. Once I saw what it could do I was very tankful. Unfortunately with out the features working I could not really use it. Currently it is being 1/2 used and I wrote a few bat files to make up for some of the other 1/2. I would be happy to resume the project for you as well. C++ is my coding trade but I can handle VB when I have to .. Either way I will show my appreciation.

Thanks for the great information.
I am interested in building a loopback adaptor. Can someone please provide some more information on the relays (maybe Radio Shak partnumbers)? I'm not well "learnt" on electronics yet and I would like to cut down on my trips to Radio Shak as much as possible.
My system is already 12V all the way through, but currently wired to straight 12V. I have been looking for a good IGN alternative. Thanks!
thanks,
.brit

Schematic?
I'm just wondering if the directions to make the actual circuit are really at the bottom of post#1, or if I'm slightly retarded :-)
I can't find it anywhere! ( for the RJ45 wiring needed for wake on LAN solution)

Yeah great app ;-)
I use a Danish XP. When I install shutcontrol, it does get installed in C:\Programmer which is the danish equivalent to C:\Program Files. Unfortunately shutcontrol doesn't work, unless I move it to C:\Program Files.
So, somewhere in the code C:\Program Files is hard coded, instead of using a variable.
I know, it's a tiny thing, but if you're going through the code, you might as well fix it ;-)

I'm not sure what your question really is, but the diagram is here, on the first page of this thread.

To answer my own question, I went by Advance Auto parts and picked up a " light relay". That did the trick and now my WOL works perfectly. Thanks for the great information.

blessani you rock.
Any chance you can make an API? I would like to access some of your functions in a winamp plug in called album list. If you wish to join force I'm totally game, but as a programmer I respect your choice. Also I would happy to provide a bug list and or testing.

Loopback Adaptor method
I tried the Loopback Adaptor method. Picked up a 12VDC relay from radio shack and put 1+3 and 2+6 to connect when there is power in the relay coil. So far so good. Now, here is the interesting part. On my new Toshiba laptop once the AC is disconnected completely it won't get out of hibernate no matter what even if 1+3 and 2+6 connect via the relay! Even if I restore the AC still when the relay turns on it won't get out of hibernate. In other words if the damn thing shuts down on battery power the network card goes dead even if AC is restored before you connect 1+3, 2+6. Only way the network card will come alive is when I power up the laptop.
I played with the power options of the card and xp and nothing! Turned off all possible power saving modes. Even found a note about USB and hibernation/stand by on the net about S3 Done Right.
However, if I set the shut down control to go to stand-by then no problem. The relay connects 1+3 and 2+6 and the system comes out of stand by even if it runs on the battery.
Just for the record. It is a Toshiba satellite running xp home with a realtek NIC. The Toshiba hardware config software (in the control panel) does have the option to wake up on LAN.
Any ideas how to make that network card or xp or whatever come out of hibernation if it goes to hibernation and AC is cut off before or after?
On my other laptop I use W3bMa5t3r's gadget and things are fine there but no way I am going to open this new one because its for work - lol.
By the way if you go to hibernate or total shut down with both 1+3, 2+6 on as long as the AC is plugged it will still boot if the relay cuts off and then on. So I am not so sure that 1+3 has to be disconnected before shut down as it was mentioned in a previous post.

Wake on LAN is different to Wake on LINK. Wake on LAN requires an "interesting packet" to be sent to the computer to turn it on whereas Wake on Link will switch the machine on as soon as there is network activity.
I'm struggling to find the latest version of the source files, I will be raking through the server over the next few days (whilst I implement my new 6 disk RAID5 array) and hopefully I will come across the latest source, otherwise I need to work on a much older revision and get it up to speed .

Great little utility for sure! I am just in the process of yanking out my P4 2.4 Ghz CarPC in favor of a Laptop PC. The idea is to just leave it in standby 100% of the time.
I just ripped appart a network cable here, and had connected wires 1&3 together, as well as 2 & 6. I could not wake the laptop up for the life of me, yet if I plugged it back into the network, and tried to access the laptop, it would wake up.
It was not till I read the post 2 back, that I read the WOL and WO Link being different. Looks like I'm gonna have to rip apart the laptop, and connect wires to the power switch and use a relay to "press" the power button. Looks I am gonna have to build something like W3bMasters momentary relay switch thingy.
On another note, does anyone know if there is a PCMCIA version of a network card that would wake on link? I am pretty new to hacking laptops! I just do no know if there would still be power to a PCMCIA card when in stand by and all.
This program still of course works fantastic for powering the system off. Great work!
