COM Software SDC: How to disable the 30 sec shutdown countdown window on shutdown?

Hi.
I am currently using a program which shutsdown the computer when pins 4 and 8 are shorted on the COM port. Here is the link to the program:

This program runs perfect, but there is still a slight annoyance I was hoping to get fixed. Once the ACC power is removed, a relay is triggered, and com ports 4 and 8 are shorted. The program will then initiate a shutdown in 10 seconds. However, once this shutdown is initiated(10 seconds after the ACC is removed), a dialogue windows pops up with a 30 second "Time before shutdown." Therefore, from the time I turn off the engine, my computer will take ~40-50 seconds to shutdown. I am a bit paranoid about windows hanging on shutdown, meaning that if windows were to hang, my battery would be drained (I have my system set up so that the inverter only switches off once the computer has completely powered down). So everytime I turn off my car, I wait untill my computer is completely shutdown.

So I was just wondering if anyone happens to know how to bypass this 30 second shutdown timer? I would much prefer the computer to go straight to the shutdown sequence once the program initiates it, rather than having windows do a countdown first. what is the dialogue that comes up? This is usually cause by a program not shutting down properly and windows gives a message and 30 seconds before it cuts the legs of the program and forces it to shut down. The way to solve this would be to sort the software that is giving the problem or not run it.

Just actually read the thread so what version are you using as there are a few by different people on there. The dialogue will help a lot though if you can post that.

This doesnt really seem like the screen that pops up when a program hangs on shutdown. This window only pops up when shutdown is initiated automatically by the shutdown controller program, and not when I manually shutdown. The dialogue box says:

"This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by Administrator. Time before shutdown: (timer countdown here)"

I am guessing this is how windows normally would shut itself down if the shutdown is initiated by a program rather than a user.

This doesn't appear with any software I use that shuts the PC down so I would say you have an install program or your shutdown software isn't very good. I cant see anybody else on the thread complaining about it so I can only assume its your install. Take a look through the log files and see if you can see anything wrong. You can change the timing in the regiestry but personally I think you would be better off fixing the underlying problem.

Can you get a screen shot of the error? You can go into properties of the services and turn off the 30 sec timer for that service if it fails.

open command prompt and take a look at the shutdown.exe parameters, you're looking for -t (secs) ex: shutdown -t 01 will shutdown in 1 sec instead of 30

Like was just said use the -t flag on the shutdown command. If you don't use it Windows will default to waiting 30 seconds. Back when the blaster virus was floating around it would try reseting the machine but since it left the time at 30 seconds you could just go to your command prompt and abort the shutdown.
You may also want to use the -f flag so that your applications won't be warned and it will just force everything to close.

I dont really think that any running program or service is having an error. Windows is just initiating a countdown to shutdown after being told by the shutdown controller program to shutdown. Sorry for being a noob, but how exactly do I impliment those shutdown.exe parameters? Is there some way I can edit the shutdown.exe file or something to stop the countdown permanently? On my desktop, when I ran shutdown.exe -t 0, my computer just logged off =/

like i said take a look at the parameters, not to be an *** but, like the saying goes do what you're told when you don't know what you're doing, type shutdown/? in the command promp and it'll show you the parameters.

here is what you want:

shutdown -s -t 01

shutdown -s(shutdown pc) -t(time) 1(one second)
