Question Winamp shuffle algorithm

Is it just me or does Winamp play the same songs and artists over and over again. I have adjusted some of the settings within winamp but it does not seem to make a difference. I have a modest collection of about 3000 songs and I seem to be hearing about 100 in random order while every once in awhile I will get a treat.
All of my songs are added to the winamp library and loaded to a playlist.

What version of winamp are you using? AFAIK, the 2.xx versions do something like creating a random (shuffled) playlist once, and then playing that same playlist every time, and the newer (5.xx?) versions have an "actual" random function where they randomize it on-the-fly. I've been using 2.xx because I couldn't get the vis from 5.xx to embed properly, and I have the same issue with random play.

If that were the case, winamp wouldn't play the same song until it reached the end of the list. I am intersted whether others have the same problem or a solution.

when using winamp 5 you have to set the skin to classic mode and not modern skins to get the vis window to embed properly. Thats assuming that you are using Road Runner as your front end.

Just a thought but if winamp doesn't close properley it wont save the settings. Sounds odd tho. My one runs perfectley and seems to shuffle without fail.

Let us know what happens!

Shuffle "works". Just not very random with a subset of of entire playlist played.

You know, I wonder if the older versions have a limitation on how effectively they can manage a playlist. For example, winamp will manage a playlist of 500 songs very well but beyond that, it can't keep track of what it has played so it grabs repeats. I still need to try 5.13 to see if that makes it better.
