Converting 300GB of .wav into mp3's?
Hi All,
As the title says:
I have about 300gb of audio all in .wav files. They are stored on a single drive in folders like C:MEDIA/ARTIST/ALBUM/TRACKTITLE
Each file (song) is give the name Artist-Album-TrackTitle
Now, my better half has got a new mp3 player. I have one copy of the media folder on my carpc and another on my home pc. Is there a simple way that i can create a folder on my home pc (called 'mp3media') and rip a mp3 from every wav file?
I can do them one (folder) at a time easy enough but does anybody know of a program that i could point at my media folder, set to work, and have it create a dupilacte (with the artist/album folders) in mp3?
Also, I ripped all my cd's stright into .wav using EAC. This named all the files for me from the fcddb. I would like some way to add the id3 tags to the mp3's when they are compressed. either via the internet or by using the filenames already on each song.
Thanks!

There are tons of tools to do mass MP3 converts. You can even use a WinAmp plug-in for that and all you have to do is add all the songs to your playlist and select an output location.
As for the ID3 tag, google MusicBrainz, it compares the audio of the song w/ an online database and auto-fills the id3 tag for you.

Yea, I have found plenty of tools to do it but I cant find one that will just let you click on the media folder and convert the lot.
Every one I have tried I have had to click the media folder, open a artist folder, open the track folder then hold CTRL, click each song, click ADD then convert them.
Problem is, I have over 1500 folders in the media folder.

Just do a search on your media folder for *.wav, when the search completes, hit CTRL+A to select all, then add them all. It will save you from having to go into each individual folder.

I use a combination of tools to do what you are speaking of. To convert the WAV's to mp3, i use Xilisoft Audio Converter http://www.xilisoft.com/ . I'm also fairly sure this can be done for free in Winamp using the Lame MP3 Writer plug-in. However, my plugin version 1.6.1 only supports one output directory. There may be a newer or better plugin out there.
Once the mp3's are converted, I use CDDB MP3 Tool v1.33 to rename the ID3 and filenames.
Let me know if you find a conversion tool that does both batch conversions to same directory and does CDDB lookups for mp3 file and tag naming.
