WOW a lot of activity indeed CherryBomb!! I have some catching up to do. I have been away from MP3car.com for about a year now!! I just noticed an e-mail noting updates to this thread :-) I dumped the old car and have been missing my CarPC, but I couldn't let my free year of sirius go to waste before ripping out the OEM radio! :-) If you need any more graphics or testing done for this let me know... now.... where did I stick that SN.... :-D

what is the best frontend/skin in conjunction with space navigator? not only play next/prev, pause and volume up and down but overall navigation with this wonderful thing, i.e. ipod wheel style.

I wrote the software with the intention of using with Road Runner, though it should be fairly flexible to work with other stuff.
Not sure if you own one of these devices and already know this, or not, but the "twist" axis of the device is not continuous, so it couldn't work like an iPod wheel. It is quite cool though. I need to actually implement the darn thing in my truck one day!

Does anyone have one of these mounted on the dash (vertical mount) versus on a surface like the center console (horizontal mount)?
I'm curious about whether or not mounting it vertical would create use issues. For instance, you hit a small bump in the road, will it move the axis or any other adjustments because of the bump and it's own mass weight, as though a hand were doing it?

While I don't have it mounted in my vehicle at all, I can make some educated guesses on this.
Even horizontally mounted there is a "push" axis which would be activated if there were any significant movement from hitting a bump. The internal springs/resistance on this thing is quite strong, so I don't think it would be a problem.
Again, I can't say with certainty since I haven't actually used it in a car at all, but others have it horizontally mounted, and haven't reported a problem with the "push" axis being activated accidentally.

Ive actually tested this, somewhat. I would shake the base of the SN and see what happens. Thanks to cherrybomb's app, you can actually set a threshold, so that the axis has to move a certain amount before the driver apps begin doing whatever you want that axis to do.
On top of that, vehicle suspension is designed to take the edge off bumps, which is what it takes to make this thing falter. I don't think anyone will have any issues.
I'm about to head home from Iraq, and once I get to my new car in May, I'm going to install my SN in my car, next to the Ebrake =]

is there any config/plugin file/setup to have space navigator to do more than volume, play, pause, next/previous track. who has done it. with what software and drivers.
similar to powermate in combination with girder to use to switch to audio playlist, browsing, selection etc.
