How safe is EWF?

Exactly what the title says... F.ex, is there any reason to install an antivirus program? Firewall? Of course the computer can still be hacked and so on, but it will not hold any personal information, so thats not an issue...

EWF is not an antivirus solution. Sure, it will prevent any writes to the disk, but it will not block boot sector viruses. However, if a virus is in the disk overlay and you commit it, then the virus is now physically written to disk.

If the system is disconnected and you don't download random programs from the web then you'd probably be safe enough.

It will connected to the internet, but only to sync google calendar info (i know i said it wouldent contain personal info, but i dont mind people reading that )

Having an antivirus will, as far as i understand, be quite a problem with ewf since it needs to update its virus database!?

yes, that's correct. if you plan on having this system on for long periods of time without a reboot then you may run into out of memory errors due to antivirus updates filling up the EWF disk overlay. I think you'd probably be fine without antivirus as long as you had a firewall on it and were careful with what you downloaded/installed to it.

Then I guess I'll go without it =) Mybe make a ghost image of the drive when everything is set, so I can just use that if things get messy.
