PROBLEM FIXED - MapPoint craching VERY frequently
What version of StreetDeck is this bug report for?
1.0.8.1.
Please give a basic description of the issue here.
MapPoint crashing VERY frequently
Is the systemt that is listed in your CarPC specs under your user name the same system where you encountered this bug?
yes
If no, please describe your system here.
Please provide any relevent information regarding the issue you have encountered.
MapPoint appears to be unable to parse the data from my GPS unit. I use Dead Reckoning unit from U-BLOX. Usually for a fer seconds to a minute from the time i lunch Navigation SD ether hangs and then closes or it closes immediately and I get an error window the mappoint has experienced some error. I also use GpsGate from Franson but I have tried with out it with same results. Generally SD is very unstable and recently it also fails to resume after hibernation. I have attached some log files with the GPS error. Also the logs are a bit old but upgrading to 1.0.8.1 has not changed the situation at all.

Update:
I used a simple mouse GPS and everything works great. So the problem appears to be exactly what I thought. My Dead reckoning GPS sends some lines that map point does not understand. But is that a reason to crash? Does map point or streetdeck take care of the GPS parsing?

Mine crashes all the time too. And my hardware is Infill T3 which was preloaded with StreetDeck. I'm afraid to push the navigation button now. There's definitely something wrong with MapPoint and StreetDeck.

There's something wrong with your instllation of MapPoinbt & StreetDeck.
Others run the same stup (including myself) and have zero problems.

Make sure the GPS antenna is in clear view of the sky and connected securely.

similar problem on an infill g4 unit
i recently got the infill g4 unit preloaded with streetdeck, and am using the gps accessory that is listed on the product page. i, too, am now completely afraid to use navigation, because it crashes mappoint and streetdeck within a minute or two, almost without fail. i like the interface, and would prefer to continue using mappoint, but at this point i can't. i'm surprised that more people aren't experiencing this trouble.
has anyone found a solution?

Well I quote my self. It is probably related to the GPS unit, at least for me. Using my Haicom HI-204 did a big difference in the reliability of SD!
@ StreetDeck_Ace: No reception would or should not be a reason for crashing!
I must also say here that for me many crashing problems got resolved by reinstalling SD. Look at my other thread http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/stre...s-wonders.html
I was not able to observe if reinstalling made any difference on crashes due to MapPoint since I changed my GPS at the same time. So I can confirm that changing back to the old GPS does crashes MapPoint but not if reinstalling made this less frequent.

What do you mean something wrong with my installation? Infill T3 came preinstalled with StreetDeck from mp3car.com.

I've had at least 4-5 freezes or crashes over the last few days with Navigation in SD on my G4 (and I've hardly used the GPS at all).

Same Here... All of the Above
Nothing fancy install.
Palm Treo 650 tether.
no external sound card.
no external amp.
no bu camera
no ODBII
My New G4 with the Windows and SD build straight out of the box from mp3car crashes constantly when using GPS...
Using the G4s CD/DVD drive at all for AV crashes SD 100% of the time..
Album art shows in WMP but not in SD.
EQ settings are not saved.
Voice volume low off the scale with other audio.
Stand-by is flakey. Often when I start the car the G4 powers up only to go into hibernate. The system then needs to be brought back online with the power button.
Honestly I'm almost ready to start playing with RR as SD does not seem to be quite ready for Prime Time. I undestand that the G4 is brand new hardware but I did not realize that by buying one I was enrolling myself in a beta test situation. I need some assurances that mp3car knows there are some major problems, that they have a handle on it and some kind of idea when they expect to have the issues to be resolved.
If it was Mp3Car's aim that the G4 with SD could compete with Pioneer's AVICs they have missed the mark horribly. This is BLEEDING EDGE technology and I would not recommend it for anyone but the serious Geek.

Its the HAiCOM "HI-204" with a serial to usb converter from Haicom. About 4 years old but works fine!

Same problem here. I am using a BU-303 gps adapter. It also seems to happen every time after changing to the "next" track while running mappoint via SD.

An others like spaceskater, irdrive, skilletpop, johnk, beefHeart, giz@turbocharge and me (only mentioning people in this thread) experience consistent crashes with MapPoint and SD.
I ended up giving up on MapPoint and just wrote a simple DigitalMod that will fire/find a running instance of iGuidance. I added a button to iGuidance that switches back to StreetDeck. I would extremely recommend using iGuidance anyway.
By the way, (mostly) everything else in SD works like a charm.
