Custom POIs cannot be imported. - 1.0.9.8 - 1.1.0.0
What version of StreetDeck is this bug report for?
1.0.9.8
Please give a basic description of the issue here.
Custom POIs cannot be imported.
Is the system that is listed in your CarPC specs under your user name the same system where you encountered this bug?
No
If no, please describe your system here. Operating System: Windows XP Pro Motherboard: Biostar M7NCD (NVIDIA nFORCE2 400 + MCP chipset) Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2100+ Video: nVidia Radeon 9200 RAM: 1GB Hard Drives: Western Digital 40GB HD (System and StreetDeck install) Seagate 80GB HD (Music) Seagate 120GB HD (Data) Seagate 120GB HD (Data)
Are you able to reproduce this bug at will?
Yes
Please list the steps required to recreate the issue you are reporting. Importing custom POIs appears to work in that StreeDeck says it has imported the file and does not report errors, but I cannot locate those POIs. I attempted two workflows to import the POIs. One method was simply dragging the .csv file directly onto StreetDeck. An overlay at the top of the screen indicated that one file was imported, although pressing the "Details" button does not do anything. The other workflow is as follows: From the Navigaton map screen: Create route Icon "Create Route" button "Point of Interest" button "Custom POIs" button "Import POIs" button "Import POIs" button Then Browse to the file I'd like to import, which I had saved to a removable disk (SD card). Several times I was able to import the file, then after a few tries, the file no longer showed up in StreetDeck to import. As though there were no files to import from that removable disk, even though they were still there. This is possibly an unrelated issue.
Please provide any relevent information regarding the issue you have encountered.
I have tried many times one two different versions and have never been able to "successfully" import POIs. StreetDeck does not report errors, but the POI.db is never updated and the POIs can never be found. Other users have apparently not been able to import POIs either, as discussed in http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/stre...treetdeck.html.
Once the files had appeared to be imported, I checked the POI.db file in My Documents\StreetDeck. The file had a size of zero K, and the modification date was the date the StreetDeck was installed, not a more recent date. StreetDeck said that it imported a file, but did not write to POI.db. I should point out that on this machine, "My Documents" has been moved to a third hard drive. I do not know if this could be an issue…I anticipate that StreetDeck does not care where My Documents is located as Windows would handle the location of this special folder.
The file used to test is the Example.csv offered up in http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/stre...treetdeck.html. This thread indicates that the POI.db file is located in Documents and Settings\<Current User>\Application Data\StreetDeck\POI.db. This location varies from where POI.db is found locally for me, which is My Documents\StreetDeck.
I tried several times to edit the Example.csv to make it work. I noticed that the title line did not have a comma at the end after "Description". I added a comma, still did not work. I also noticed that the two example lines did not have what would correlate to a Description field. I added another value followed by a comma. That file still did not appear to import.
Even though I couldn't see anything being added to POI.db, I use the browse feature of the navigation to go over to Maryland and tried locating POIs. I found many POIs in Waldorf, MD but not the two that should have been imported in Example.csv.
Recreated the following on my Carpc (specs listed in profile) with version 1.0.8.1:
Copied the example.csv to a removeable USB drive (iPod), plugged it into the CarPC. Togged StreetDeck off fullscreen and dragged the example.csv from the removable drive onto StreetDeck. A overlay at the top of the screen indicated that one file was imported, but pressing the "Details" button does not do anything. Located the POI.db and saw that it has zero filesize and the modified date was the date that I installed StreetDeck. The POI.db file was located in My Documents\StreetDeck.

Please try 1.1.0.0. Even though this issue is not directly addressed by this release, we will need to know if functionality has changed.

What program are you using to create the POI files for importing. I have not tested this feature in the past. I will contact our developers to determine the correct way to do this.

Deep6, we need a response. Without one we will be forced to close this thread due to a lack of necessary information and follow up.

Importing POIs still not working in 1.1.0.0

I have updated my development environment to 1.1.0.0 and still see the same behavior that I did in 1.0.9.8. I attempted to import the Example.csv by dragging it onto StreetDeck. I got the overlay at the top indicating that it was importing POIs. I could not locate those POIs through the navigation module, nor had the POI.db file located in My Documents\StreetDeck been updated. The POI.db still showed a file size of zero and had not been modified since the date that I installed StreetDeck on this machine.

I have not attempted to create my own. I was using the Example.csv file provided by Chuck in this thread: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/stre...treetdeck.html
Any editing that I did to the Example.csv to try to get it to work was done with Notepad, but to no avail.

RedGTiVR6 I have a question it's related to the OP and I didn't want to create a thread. Has anyone, yourself included got this to work. I tried with 1.0.9.8 and the previous release both didn't work for me when I tried to even import the example.csv. It's a feature that would save me a ton of time so I am just curious if anyone got it to work.

I have not even tried this.
I will ask QA if they have tried this.
My position with the company does not involve QA or testing work. I have other responsibilities that occupy my time. I am helping to take care of some testing and QA work on the side in order to bring the QA and testing up to par.
I will say that this is a lower priority issue and probably won't take presidence over other necessary fixes at this time.

UPDATE: I was able to import the example.csv without any issues. However, I have not created my own with custom POIs in my area.
This is something that is beyond the scope of my position and will have to be handed off to Adam for further testing.

Thanks for the update, whenever it decides to stop raining I will give it a shot with 1.1.0.0. I was just curious because I noticed a couple posts with people saying it wasn't working so in 1 way I was happy it wasn't just me. At least now I know someone got it to work so it;s worth reattempting.

I was able to recreate the issue. I have contacted our engineers and the issue will hopefully be fixed in the next update.
