Severity 3 Clock loosing time - Infill G4

What version of StreetDeck is this bug report for?

Infill G4

Please give a basic description of the issue here.

Clock loosing time

Is the system that is listed in your CarPC specs under your user name the same system where you encountered this bug?

Yes
If no, please describe your system here.

Are you able to reproduce this bug at will?

Yes
Please list the steps required to recreate the issue you are reporting.

seems to be most related to hibernate or power-off.

it's pretty simple. I will set the clock. then go to work, or leave car in garage overnight. when I come back, the clock is way off. hours off.

it *seems* to be on average about 3 hours off from when I last had it on.

for that i mean, last night I left my g.f. house at 2:30 AM. drove home. when i turned on this morning for work, the clock was at 5:30 AM.

Then I set the clock before going into work at 12:15 PM and when i got back in the car, it was set to 3:15 PM.

Give or take before I notice and all that stuff. Since the clock isn't on ever screen and I don't normally check it.

Please provide any relevent information regarding the issue you have encountered.

My gut tells me it has to do with something like:
  • turn off key.
  • SD goes to suspend. battery still powering SD.
  • then SD is hibernating after 3 hours (don't know why -- that's a whole other bug I've discovered lately)
  • therefore no power to SD and it knows the time it was when it "shut off"
  • turn key on
  • SD thinks it is the time when it hibernated

I also suspect this isn't normally noticed, as SD keeps power during suspend for 48 hours supposedly (except on my G4 now), therefore the clock is always running or something.

This seems more like a G4 hardware or BIOS bug than an SD bug. There are a few people here in Russia (including myself) who are experiencing a similar issue and none of us are using SD.

In my case, this happens every time when I leave the G4 in standby state for more than about 10-12 hours, then it seems to shut down automatically and the clock goes off, way off. If I happen to get back to the car while it is still in standby (that means within 10-12 hours after entering standby), the clock is ok. If I shut down manually instead of entering standby - the clock is ok even if I don't use the car for weeks.

The available manuals vaguely hint that the G4 is suppossed to shut itself down either after some fixed time of inactivity or when the battery voltage falls below certain threshold.

As the exact number of hours after which the little bugger decides to shut itself down screwing the clock in the process seems to vary widely, I tend to believe that we are not dealing with a timeout here but with an overly sensitive voltage sensor. I really don't know what to do about it as I have a brand new car with a brand new stock battery - am I supposed to replace it? Needless to say, I have never experienced any electrical problems with the car - the engine always starts perfectly.

My car too is new. it's a 2007 Scion tC. It seems odd though, considering the G4 should have a small rechargable battery for the clock. Every PC in the world does already! That's why you can unplug your computer and the clock/BIOS settings don't reset.

Wow. Again, I'm having the same problem now (this is twice I've had a problem just spring up that was identical to a current thread).

I bought my G4 from the first run. It had a DVD problem, so I sent it back for repair. While at the Store, I had the memory and hdd upgraded. Now, this "new" G4 has this time losing problem (as well as a speech problem in SD, as mentioned in the SD forum). It never did this before, and I've had the unit installed since May (except for a couple of weeks during the repair period).

Have you checked the clock in Windows.

Please report back and let us know if the clock in Windows is off as well.

Also, DAE51D, the age of your car is not in relation to this issue. That's not at all what Marassa was getting at. All that was mentioned was leavig the car for an extended period of time.

Also, we MUST have the version of StreetDeck you were running when you noticed this issue. Infill G4 is not an adequate description as that's telling us very little. We need the version of STREETDECK.

Yes, the clock in XP is wrong too. I would be even more shocked if the clock in windows and the clock in StreetDeck were different! That would be an astonishing development blunder of which I couldn't even comprehend how it could happen. That would mean that SD "rolled it's own" clock. LOL! Although, if you ever read http://worsethanfailure.com as I do, then it's not all that far fetched I guess. HAHAH.

I would tell you the versions, but since I just got a scoloding for posting something benign about a beta-version in the non-beta testers area, I can't post it here apparently. How about "the current version minus one" *wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean, know what I mean*. :-\

I noticed it happening more frequently after installing said "current version" and when that crashed on me, then I reverted back to -- UGH! I don't know what versions are beta or not, so now I'm afraid to mention them. This is stupid that I can't mention a version number... whatever. But that could just be coincidence related to the hibernate issue I mentioned in another post.

It smells of a hardware or BIOS issue as Marassa already mentioned, not a software one per se. I have BIOS R2.02 (I always remember that b/c it looks like R2D2 hahahh!) Hopefully that's not a beta BIOS and I'm not under NDA for that too... *sigh*

This is not a StreetDeck bug. Thread closed.

Okay, so I'm pretty tired of this clock situation. I am thinking it's time to rip this G4 out of my car and try to change out the battery.

What is the battery model I need though? The manual doesn't say. The closest I see is page 6 of this PDF that seems to show TWO batteries.
