StreetDeck music search feature
I have been using StreetDeck for Several months and am VERY satisfied customer and would like to know if there is any plan to change the music search feature in StreetDeck?
The music search feature as it is now is extremely lacking. Currently when using the search feature there are only two options when adding music depending on if appened mode is check or not.
1. Music will be appended to the bottom of the queued music, depening on how many songs are in your queue you may have to scroll through several thousand songs get the the appended song.
2. The selected song will be added to queue and the previous queue deleted.
Generaly when most people are searching for a song its because they want to listen to it immediatly. Perhaps a "Play now" button could be added giving you the ability to play the search result immediatly while also adding it to the queue or if song is already queued to select and play it.
A "Play Now" button could also affect the "select all" feature where it could load the list of songs selected so that they are visible to the user immediatly without having to scroll to the bottom of what can be a very large list.
If unchecked the "Play Now" button would let StreetDeck function as it normaly does. The lack of the ability to immediatly play songs without deleting the entire queue makes using the StreetDeck music search feature a frustrating experience particularly if you have a large music library.
I have a little experience with skinning but don't believe this can be done through skinning. If it can I would be very greatfull for any input that can be provided.
Thanks

I'm I the only one who thinks the music search feature needs improvement?

No, you're not the only one at all. Several people have talked about the fact that music module overall is in need of a complete rethinking. Problem is, we've been saying it since versions from early to mid-2006, and very few improvements have been made. The only reason I haven't yet started looking elsewhere for a frontend with better music management is because SD is hiring developers, which I hope means that these types of things can start to be addressed.

Seconded. The ability to immediately play a selected song without deleting the queue seems like a relatively easy feature to implement. Since SD relies on WMP for music management, perhaps there is an issue with WMP preventing implementation of such a feature.

input please god of cpu
Hello,
I don't mean to be a pest but god of cpu can you please provide some input as to if there are any plans to change the music search feature in StreetDeck?
Imo this is probably StreetDecks greatest weakness as the music search feature is extremely frustrating to use if you have a large music collection (120GB in my case) and music playback is probably the most used feature for most users.
Thanks

That would be awesome. I find it a bit curious that considering MP3 playback is probably the number one use for this software (second to navigation I suspect), that it's not more robust and have every possible bell and whistle. I mean, even my iPod has more features and ease of use.
Thanks Chuck for taking your time to look into this matter and focusing your attention to it.

I would encourage everyone to test out what they are requesting in WMP. StreetDeck utilizes WMP as it's engine. If it's possible in WMP, chances are it's possible in StreetDeck. If it's not possible in WMP, chances are it will take a lot of work to make it happen.
Just some food for thought.

Hi RedGTiVR6,
Thanks for the suggestion now I know why the music search feature in StreetDeck works the way it does it’s exactly the same in Windows Media player. The song can either appended to the bottom of current playlist or played immediately but it replaces the current playlist in the "Now Playing module".
Any improvement in the "music search" or "queue" would be greatly appreciated even a grouping of letters in the playlist I.E "abc", "def", etc that could be used to move to the songs that begin to the corresponding letter.
Thanks

Blechh! Windows Media Player is HORRIBLE! It's appalling to think that the media player in this $200 software is nothing more than a SKIN for a terribly designed piece of software (way to go Microsoft... as usual!).
You guys may want to consider a complete re-design and overhaul on the media functions for SD 2.0... build it from the ground up, you guys have the talent! That's likely the only way I'll spend any money on 2.0. WMP is the absolute worst app in existence for media

I didnt want to make a new post about it but another nice addition would be "move to top" when moving music in your queue nothing is more annoying then having to hit "move up" 700 times to get it to the top of the playlist.

Hell I have 120GB of MP3's try scrolling to the bottom of 29,000 songs every time you add a song.
Agreed "move to top" would be a nice feature too.
Note had some free time today an experimented with several different media players, winamp, windows media, media monkey etc. None of them has a search feature like the one we are looking for but media monkey did move to the songs that begin to the corresponding letter pressed on the keyboard.
Even implementing grouping of letters in the playlist I.E "abc", "def", etc that could be used to move to the songs that begin to the corresponding letter, as mentioned in my previous post would greatly aid in finding music in a large playlist.
