Media Path Settings in SD. Bug or just the way it must work ???

I have the following setup:

CF Card 4Gb partitioned in two Partitions C: and D:

C: is EWF Enabled
D: is non EWF Enabled (writible)

StreetDeck is installed on to C:\ProgramFiles\...........
All Media Path changed to D: drive which is writible. I did copy the folder StreedDeck from C:\MyDocuments\............\User\StreetDeck on to D:\Streetdeck and change appropriate setting in SD for that.
StreetDeck starts perfect BUT !!!

I decided that since I changed media path and config path to drive D: and now all my settings are on drive D: I could just remove the folder StreetDeck under C:\MyDocuments\.......\User\.

I did remove it and commit my changes EWFMGR C: -commit.

Now after I reboot the system and tried to strat StreetDeck it froze at Applying Sounds and I had to kill the process in task manager. After doing this I found that StreetDeck created the folder StreetDek under C:\MyDocuments\....\User

When I strated StreetDeck again it start to work normally.

My question is: Why StreetDeck trying to create something uder MyDocuments folder when Media Path and StreetDeck Settings path are pointed to Drive D: ??? Is it a bug in SD or this is the way it works and in despite that I chage path to D: for Settings it still must have folder StreetDeck under C:\My Documents ???

Hi Vinzer,

I've had the same issue running EWF with StreetDeck , its seems that even though you specify D: as the data path and data is written to D: StreetDeck still need to reference C:\MyDocuments\............\User\StreetDeck . What I found that works is after opening StreetDeck at least once, just copy not move your SD data path to D: then specify your data path to D: using "edit media path".

Honestly though I'd suggest running EWF on both C: and D: or leaving your StreetDeck data on C:. Lets say StreetDeck crashed and was unable to start after the crash. If you had your StreetDeck data on D: with ewf disabled, rebooting the system would not fix the issue as data had been written to D: (this has happened to me on a few occasions)

I've had so many issue's with StreetDeck crashing then not being able to start requiring a reinstall of StreetDeck or even corrupting my OS. Now I run EWF and HORM on my C: drive with my StreetDeck data folder residing on C:. It does have a few drawbacks but they are far outweighed by the negatives of not running EWF and HORM.

Thank you for your answer. You suggest to keep SD's settings on protected volume, which means that everytime I reboot the system all SD settings will gone. I am under RAM Reg mode. I agree that the way you proposed is a good way to avoid SD corruption, but than I have to live with the same resume state for SD after every reboot. And if I added new music to Unindexed folder, after I run SD - music will be reindexed by fronend and moved to Music folder. However if my settings for SD are on protected voume than next time I reboot the system and all my settings will be back to initial state - means new music files won't apear in play list. Am I right ?

Hi Vinzer,

Your correct with the method suggested you will always resume for the same state (the drawback I was reffering to) using HORM and your settings will be back to their initial state after a reboot.

There are two options you could use to save StreetDeck setting when running EWF and Horm. The first being using hibernate as it will still write a new hibernate file while EWF is running. But you have to be carefull, when you disable EWF you will lose that hibernate state but you can commit the changes to the drive when you disable ewf. I usually just hibernate if I make minor changes i.e changing skin or loading new playlist, the changes are then saved in new hibernate file.

The second you mentioned in your first post using the "EWFMGR C: -commit" to commit changes such as like adding music (which is what I do). As far as indexing music with StreetDeck I've had a lot of issues with that feature (I have approx 120GB of music) so I don't let StreetDeck index my music. I manually add any new music to the index folder, StreetDeck is able to see the music with no issue.

The method I use really isn't that bad the drawback being always resuming from the same hibernate state. I just keep a two .bat files on my desktop one to disables EWF and commit changes the other to enable EWF on both my drives again.

On the positive it's the only way I've been able to have StreetDeck run with any real stability for months at a time.
