Alright, here's my two cents...
1) i am NOT a developer. Those who say "if you have a problem with SD or its team, make your own front end", i just say this.... i cannot develop. that's why i pay money for someone to do it for me. I bought this product b/c i cannot develop. When i buy something, i expect it to work. If i have issues, i expect reasonable support. (key word being "reasonable").
2) "Coming Soon" stuff. i realize coming soon means just that. I didn't buy SD with anticipation of future features. I bought it for its current functionality (well actually it came with my Infill i spent $2500 on). I won't complain about not having bluetooth, but i will complain when things that it is supposed to do don't work properly.
3) the handling of SD by the mp3car team. I'm not going to flame the SD team or mp3car, and yes we know the two are separate entities. BUT, when Mp3car decides to sell a product with SD as the frontend, the two have an obligation to each other. I expect continued support even after SD is no longer sold. the support hasn't been poor - it has been non-existent.. GodofCPU used to be GREAT at helping people on here, and he/she has been missing of late. There hasn't seemed to have been anyone else offering support. Mp3car should hire someone or train someone to provide some support with basic SD functionality. I don't think they should have to continue development, but support? This should be a given.
4) constructive suggestion: Issue free copies of Centrafuse to all existing paid SD owners who request it. I don't care what my front end is, as long as it works and has continued support in case problems arise. If SD can no longer be supported for whatever reason, that's fine... i'm not going to point fingers... BUT i expect a replacement front end that can be supported. Given that we all PAID for Streetdeck, i feel the transfer of funds has already taken place, and thus this shouldn't be a problem. I spent over $2500 with mp3car and can't even get responses to requests for basic support. What is that about? There should be a person dedicated to support, at the very least.
In closing, i realize there might have been internal problems at mp3car and/or streetdeck, and that's fine. I'm not unreasonable, but being that we are customers, and they have been keeping us in the dark, a little customer service couldn't hurt. If mp3car is at all concerned about our future business or recommendations to friends, they would take care of us. Giving us a blanket statement that delays an actual answer does NOT make me happy. Offering me a free copy of Centrafuse to take over where SD left off and then continuing support in that area WILL make me happy. Since mp3car cannot do anything about SD at this point in time, why not fix what you can and offer CF to people? This would satisfy about 90% of angry SD customers on here, and help put all this behind us.
In the meantime, thanks to anyone who takes steps to positively address this situation.

Very Odd
Wow! You are right! GOC hasn't been around the forum for nearly 2 months. I hope this has some positive implication and not a negative one! Does anyone have any insight into this?

It's a good post and no reason for it to be deleted. You could have even been meaner.
GOC last checked in on 4/22/08 at 8am. My guess is still that they are working with some other group (google with time frames and you get the "rumors") with a set deadline that they aren't making, but that's just my $.02 worth. I like the CF idea, but I found it was no better than SD in it's current form. However, SD is supposed to be back in a month, so you could download CF and use it for free.
Good post!

I have no intention of deleting your post. It was what I think is an appropriate post for this thread. All I was asking for is for people to be on topic and constructive. Your post was exactly that.

my SD works fine..whats all this noise for anyway....I bought SD for the features it had..not the promised...hell thats they have digimods...the bluetooth issue.. is not as easy as people think SD are a small entity...they are not like microsoft who can afford to spend millions on R&D...have you guys ever programmed?..spend 12 hrs wondering whts wrong with a program just to realize its a frkn comma.
How many people do you think have SD on there cars?..you think they sell 1000 copies a week..Lets be realistic here.. I know I could program a front end without a doubt..but the time it would take me to make it anywhere near SD would be real frkn pricey...if I had to pay myself..so lets talk nicely and hopefully SD will help us out...whining doesnt help anything and I am sure they don't sell cheese.

You're lucky. My SD is unuseable for no apparent reason. It just stopped working reliably about a month ago. I've had to purchase CF b/c SD doesn't even acknowledge bugs anymore in their half-assed-forum-based "bug tracker" (which is a generous term). I've submitted several that are all still not even assigned or in some cases not even "moderated" (or whatever is needed for them to show up in the forum!) And I think what most people are complaining about are the lack of involvement SD has had the past couple months or so. It's been exceedingly quiet from them.
While future features would be great, I (and most people) are *****ing about the current SD that is riddled with bugs. I don't even care about the bluetooth stuff (yet). I just want a freakin' MP3 player that has the basics that my iPod has had for years. You can't even drag the slider in the current version without it halting music!! I paid $2000 for an Infill G4, and the radio is useless -- it switches to static after a few minutes. The thing randomly jacks the volume to 100% or conversely, the up volume soft button randomly just stops working. My clock looses time and I've asked them what is the frkn battery I need (so I can go to radio shack and get one prior to ripping this thing out of my dash) and can't even get a simple reply on that. The damn thing powers off after a few hours instead of hibernating as it should, and I've yet to hear a solution to that either.
It's pathetic.
I had three friends who were all excited to purchase one of these when they saw mine. Now SD has lost $6000 in revenue b/c they see my frustration.

This has to go to a Litigation Lawsuit against Streetdeck and Mp3cars.com
This "coming soon" and support is considered false advertisement. Trust me this is going to move on.

Trust me this is sitting in the heads of many people, they may be posting it but it's definitely an option worth looking into. You are not allowed to run a company with paying customers like a romper room.

I tried CF 2.0 last week and it made me come back to Streetdeck. It is a decent interface, but the Destinator navigation that they use is really, really low tech. I tried Centrafuse with iNav over a year ago, prior to SD, but the flash at each refresh in night mode drove me crazy.
Be forewarned, after I installed and uninstalled CF, I couldn't get SD to start. I had to reinstall windows all over again.

Making a restore point before loading CF works for this.

If their "end of the month" is anything like the "announcement this week" or "bluetooth coming soon" time frames I wouldn't hold your breath for this end of the month announcement.

Aptera/Streetdeck
Anyone have an ideal of how Aptera will/is affecting Streetdeck? This is a specualtion, but will Streetdeck be sold to Aptera? The pictures of the interior of the Aptera show a computer system that looks alot like SD and the Aptera sites states they are using SD for an entermainment system. Any thoughts?

Judging by the track record, don't hold your breath for that 1 month time line.

How can SD users deal with the slow updates. From what ive heard, SD is dead and their not offering updates anymore. I dont know, I use CF, infact I stand by it 100%. It is very easy to use and has so many features. I tried SD and the first thing it thanked me with was a system crash, then I realized they have no multi monitor support (or at least I didnt see it), I just hated it..... The interface was dull and boring, ughhhh (cringes), CF had a skin that matched my car right out of the box.
Anyways to each his own though.......
