Forgive me for being the grouch, but after the silent treatment for, oh, say six months, I will have to see some positive results (more than just some forum postings), before I am again satisfied with SD. A new patch will go a long ways towards that, as will continued support and news/updates.

This isn't good news at all.
Basically, it sounds like phone support "coming soon" is being dropped, no word about traffic, or other "coming soon" features, and "full version" users will have to pay an upgrade fee - how in the world does anybody consider that good news?
Streetdeck, Mp3car, digitalwheelz, whatever has treated their customers like crap. Actually, worse than that. 6 months of "trust us, we'll tell you something soon", and really I'm not suprised you guys are trying to pass the plate around again.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
The money that your customers paid was for a fully functional product - not empty promises. This is more of the same crap.

If these guys actually follow through now that the pi$$ing contest is over, it means....
1. Open to multiple hardware choices while maintaining the look and feel of streetdeck.
2. Getting away from navigation software (hopefully) that will not take you off the freeway......just to put you right back on.
3. Support for more "volunteer work" on getting even more features added.
May not be the best news, but it's better than "streetdeck is dead". As for the upgrade fee, decent navigation stuff isn't free on any frontend.
Edit: I was going to try and NOT ask this, but are we going to lose our Satmaps on the new nav system?

Look at it this way - paying even more money, and not even getting the features that were orignally promised is pretty stupid, don't you think?
So now I'm supposed to be excited because this is going to be some kind of open-source project (only not free, but just somehow magically developers are going to start to develop for it?)
And oh yeah, just wait another 30 days for the first updates... I'll believe it when I see it.

Yay for opening things up a bit. That was one of the things that initially held me away from (turned me off about) streetdeck. I'm not saying I'll drop everything and jump in, but I think it's a good direction.
But if streetdeck allowed Fusion Brain software (not just the hardware) to work with it nicely, well... that's a different story.

A fusionbrain plugin would be excellent.

I purchased lite because I had purchased Mappoint 2006. Got it cheap on sale after a shop went down. Nevertheless I purchased it with SD in mind.
Question is. Can those of us who purchased lite, pay the addition and get 2.0 full version?
I mean its a new nav engine.
Regarding the nav engine. Any chance of telling us wich? I mean we´ve had some good news the past hours. But we allways want more...

i personally always wanted to develop for SD.. but certainly wasnt paying full price for something i wont use just so i can contribute.

if everything goes well i will definitely port my RRFusion plugin to streetdeck.
Its good to see SD has a future and some if not most of the questions have been answered

Its been developed from the ground up and it has been in development for the better part of a year. We are licensing a routing engine and navigation data, everything else has been written as a core part of StreetDeck.
We will not be supporting more then one nav engine. That being said I won't stop any efforts to integrate another one through the SDK.

Yes, there will be one upgrade price to 2.0 navigation. It will apply to both Lite and Full owners. It will be under $100 to upgrade. You can upgrade without navigation for free.

Any V1 updates will keep it in. V2 will not.

Chuck, did you purposely avoid the satmap question?
That was one of the biggest reasons I bought Streetdeck. Are we going to lose them? Maybe going with googlemaps this time? hmmmmm? Hint maybe?
I know this isn't your problem, but do you know if the onevoice plugin will work on 2.0? Will we even need it?
Caelric, what the hell is up with that Avatar?? You know what I mean.

I agree, this isn't good news on its own. Its an attempt to just bring things back to the status quo and be honest about what is and is not possible.
I purposely left traffic out because it is an important feature and one that we should have a way to deliver on, but I don't know if that will actually happen and I'm not going to make promises I can't deliver on. All that I can say now is the V2 initial release will not have traffic built in. There will be no more coming soon announcements. I will try to talk about stuff we are working on, but no promises of whether that means it will ever become a feature or when. V2 will definitly be coming out though. Well, either it does or we go out of business. Bluetooth is still a very important feature and will hopefully be coming one day too, but we have no means to do it right now.
The fee for full version upgrade is because we are changing navigation engines and have to at least cover our costs. Its not going to be a revenue stream for us. In any case, don't buy it if you are only doing so with the expectation of additional features.
