I know this isn't your problem, but do you know if the onevoice plugin will work on 2.0? Will we even need it?

Caelric, what the hell is up with that Avatar?? You know what I mean.

Voice will not be upgraded. There no changes to the SDK that should prevent it from working. I have not talked to onevoice in months and don't know what the status is right now.

The new navigation engine will allow background imagery to be overlaid.

satmaps: OH YEAH!

Onevoice: They have released the beta, but it's not doing great in a mobile environment. Works perfectly sitting still though. Pretty impressive on a benchtest.

Chuck
What would the new maps cover?
I guess for sure USA and also Canada.
What about us weirdos in Europe? Will we be covered? If yes, then what part of Europe?
I figure this will be an important piece of information when we decide to use SD 2.0 or take another path.

What do you need maps for? Can't you throw a rock from one end of the country to the other?

I live in Norway. We probably could do so form the westcoast towards east. But then we could risk hit the swedes and get them pi(ss)ed. LOL

Regarding throwing rocks from north to south, we have to get out of the car to pick up that rock and trow it again and again and again. The further up you get its getting frikin cold.

Just cuoriuos on what to come.

Yes, USA and Canada.

Europe is not in the road map right now, but we are working on getting evaluation data for us to start testing on it.

Not the answer I hoped for. But thanks Chuck.
I guess SD 2.0 will be out of the question for me then . Untill Europe-maps shows up that is.

Uhm, could I run both my current verison and 2.0? Would love to test it and all the new cool stuff.

Welcome back GOC! Thank you for the candid answers to our questions. I am excited and optimistic about the new direction in which you are taking Streetdeck. I just have a quick question...

I know this is a small carrot, but is there any chance that we will be able to get Streetdeck to work with the indashpc.com car2pc adapter, either internally in the software or via digitalmod? This is something that (...not a huge coder here...) seems like it wouldn't be too difficult code-wise, and would complete the "eyes on the road" experience for me, and I presume for many other customers. I know you created a mod a while ago for it, but it seemed to only work with the car2pc simulator, not the actual hardware. Btw...I'd be more than happy to purchase the hardware for you in order to get it working.

Thank you again for your feedback. It's great to hear from you again, and I wish you the best of luck in the coming years.

Nice to hear SD is still alive.
About this new nav engine... will we be able to use sat images from the web? If yes, witch ones (google, live, yahoo, ...), or will more of them be available to choose from? I would prefer google, because only google shows most accurate streets where i live, and has best sat images.

So, what happens to us EU users now? If we upgrade to v2 we loose the nav, or will at least the old one still work? When are you planning to include EU in v2?

A great feature would be to adjust the car icon size, so you could get it the same size as the cars in the sat images.
Another great feature (but more complex) would be to have real 3D nav. So you could see the hills higher, etc (like in google earth)

Is there going to be any GUI difference between v1 and v2?

Yes, there will be a plugin for virtual earth only.

EU users will lose nav if they upgrade. They can continue to use V1. There are no firm plans for Europe. We have to be successfull with NA before we can make further navigation data commitments to our vendor.

No, this will not be possible. The icon will be sized automatically based on your zoom level.

Yes that is a great feature. It has not been implmented nor is it in the roadmap.

Yes, structurally minor, visually significant.

so what are the main differences between v1 and v2?
Do improvements overweight the lack of nav in EU?
Will we be able to run v2, but switch to v1 when we need nav?

Chuck, thank you for your posts. (Final MP3car team rant) I can honestly say I trust your word much more then FO's for 1 simple reason, its your baby from the start and actually care about the app. FO could care less if it dried up and died and proved that to us. I have 0 issues paying an upgrade fee just like I had no issues paying the initial price...As long as there is constant support, updates and my money is going to the team actually working on the product.

For the most part the current SD does everything I need, the only thing I am looking forward to with a new app is.

Navigation enhancements
-Easier button to multiple routes to a specific location, like an eclipse head unit does.

-Add current location to favorites.

-POI'S!!! I have been saying this for a year. Allow me to sit in my driveway and download working google POI's or something for 5 hours so I don't have to ever download one again.

There is no reason for someone with a stock Ford Focus to have a better working Navigation then us using SD lol.
-Oh and did I mention, working POI's?!

Other minor stuff..
-A gesture shortcut to "playlist" by default, I still cant make custom gestures to save my life, I gave up on that after 20 minutes feeling like an idiot.

-Select a song and "move to top" hitting "move up" 450 times is one of the most annoying parts of SD.

-More stable video playback.

-Auto play next video in your my video folder.

-Make sure you keep -testmode in v2!

Thanks chuck, hope to hear from you soon.

There is an option to calculate the 4 different supported route types at once and display them on screen at the same time.

POIs are substantially better. I don't think you be disappointed with the number and accuracy of them.

THere will be several ways to add new locations to favorites include the current GPS position.

Other minor things... Once support for V1 is under control and V2 is released these could be addressed, but not before then.

There really is no V2 european option yet. When we are able to license the data and do it right, I'll talk about european V2, but until then I don't want create the impression that we have a V2 european option.
