The Future of StreetDeck
Like FiberOptic, I can't talk about the past.
What I can talk about is the future. StreetDeck isn't going away, it is changing though. My company DigitalWheelz has aquired all the StreetDeck assets from MP3Car and we are going to take on support of all of MP3Car's StreetDeck customers. The company is also going to take the StreetDeck product in a new direction.
We are looking to be more open, more community oriented, and hopefully create a better product for everyone here.
As many of you noticed, I have been MIA for quite some time. The next couple of weeks are going to be extrordinarily busy for me. Expect to see a lot of updates, both informationally and hopefully a patch for all the critical issues that have been brought up. This isn't going to happen immediatly, expect more information very soon, but a patch within the next month or so.
StreetDeck.com is being updated right now and will continue to go through several renovations in the near future. Me and my colleagues at DigitalWheelz are still developing a new buisiness plan and the best direction to go. Some things are clear now though, we will continue to offer a consumer facing product. We are working on a new version and have stopped all sales of version 1 until we are ready to release it. There will be a new navigation engine and it will be released this year, hopefully sooner then later.
I will try to answer as many forum posts as I can over the weekend, but after that my time is going to be spent on StreetDeck.com and working on updates to fix any outstanding bugs with version 1. There will be a blog where I will keep everyone up to date on whats going on and a possibly a forum there for feedback. I don't know when this will happen, but it is a high priority my goal is this week.

Wonderful news Chuck. Hope you follow through better than "others" did. 'nuff said.
We staying with boomzbox or will we get the option of Visteon? We're up to $190 if you want to write it.

At this point Boomzbox support will continue.
I will probably release the source code for all the StreetDeck plugins including ELM OBDII, Phidgets Relay Cards, and Generic Radio support soon after StreetDeck.com gets back up.
I definitly don't have time to do this now and probably not for quite some time, but if you find a volunteer I could make enougth time to help them work on a generic plugin solution.
Along these same lines. There will be no new features added to StreetDeck 1, just bug fixes. StreetDeck 2.0 will be a free upgrade for StreetDeck lite owners though and we will just charge a minimal fee for those with full to pay our new navigation engine costs.

Oh heck, I didn't mean now. Know you are going to be busy as heck for awhile. Just wondering if we were going to get some choices later on. Does this mean we still have to pay you the $190?

StreetDeck now has no ties to any hardware vendor, the more support the better I say. That doesn't mean I'll ever have time to do it, but I am looking at ways to open things up more to make adding support for things like this easier.

Dayum Chuck.......starting to sound too good to be true. Might want to dole this out in smaller portions before some of us start passing out.

Thanks for the update, Chuck.
Please, oh please just remember one simple thing: communication. It doesn't matter if the news is good, bad, or there isn't any news, one thing remains: communicating on a regular basis and communicating when you say you will is the only thing I (we?) really ask.
Thanks much,
Per

Ok, Good News: StreetDeck 2 will be cheaper, will include a new navigation engine, will have several other minor enhancments but not much else.
Bad News: StreetDeck 2 will not have bluetooth support. We don't have a license to the bluetooth support and probably won't be able to afford one for some time.

All right - thanks for the news
What happens to those who have the beta bluetooth piece installed and working? Will v2 allow us to continue using it?

Do Streetdeck 1 owners get upgraded free? (you might want to answer that privately lol)
Or at a serious discount? (that one you could answer publicly MAYBE )
