Trouble w/ XM Audio playing...

Good morning. About two weeks ago I installed StreetDeck in my car and we "test drove" it on a family vacation. I posted a list of features I thought would be helpful, as I found the trip to be a great learning experience for the product. However, there was one thing I could never get working.

XM Radio. StreetDeck talks to the radio, the radio is active and receiving station/song info, you just can't hear it. I've got it connected to my LINE IN on my sound card. IF I run through the Windows Audio Tuning Wizard, I can hear music (confirming the feed is good), but I can't get audio to play any other time but when in that stupid wizard. I've told StreetDeck to use the Line Input, or DISABLED (for streaming). Neither work.

So, I got a USB Soundcard thinking maybe the built-in card can't handle full-duplex operation. Same deal. I've tried audio coming in on the USB device and out on the built-in. I've also tried both in and out on the USB device. No luck. Various settings in StreetDeck to tell it where the feed is. However, in the end I believe it needs to be set to stream (but I've tried anyway because this is so strange). Still, the only time I can hear the feed is when I use the Audio Tuning Wizard in Windows.

Has ANYONE had issues with sound coming from their XM radio or can ANYONE think of why this might not be working?

The machine is a Mac Mini, but obviously its running Win XP SP2 and no devices are failing in Device Manager. The USB sound card is an iMIC from Griffin (nice little unit that has in and out, and bass and treble controls within windows so I can boost my bass to my desired liking).

Its killing me being without XM. AHHHHHH!!!!

Thanks.

Kris

First off, do NOT hook up your satellite radio feed to a sound card line input that is not on the same sound card as your speakers are connected to. it will not work with something like the iMic for this reason.

To test XM, you should set your COM port, choose your primary sound card, and the line input on the sound card. Disable streaming.

You shoudl then goto XM radio and play a station. You shoudl hear audio coming out once the station starts playing. If not, show the volume overlay, choose the vol button, then adjust the current media volume.

If you still don't hear audio, then one of the following is probably true. Your master volume or your line input volume is low or muted, your xm radio is not connected properly, or your sound card simply does not support bridging of the line input to the master output which I don't think I've ever seen a sound card not support this that has a line input.

If you are sure you have your radio hooked up properly, you should toggle fullscreen, go into the windows mixer, show all the input lines on your output device by going to Options | Properties and checking off all boxes for your playback device, then making sure all lines are unmuted and up.

That was how it was hooked up to begin with. That was my very first attempt. It was attached to the internal sound card's LINE input (speakers are on the output), I went into the mixer and made sure it was turned up and ensured MUTE was disabled. I also set StreetDeck so the XM Radio was set for LINE (when that failed is when I tried streaming and all the other possible combinations with the USB ).

I then thought maybe the XM unit was defective so I monitored the line ouput of it with some powered speakers and I could hear. I also purchased a second XM unit (just in case). Same result. I THEN attached an ipod to LINE INPUT on the computer and cranked up its volume to full. It also wasn't passing through. So, the only time it seems to work is when that darn wizard is used. I guess this is starting to point to the possibility that the internal soundcard driver doesn't currently allow bridging.

Is there a USB soundcard that does offer bridging that I could use for both functions (speaker out and XM in)?

I went to my local microcenter to pick that exact unit up (as I had almost grabbed it the week prior), but it was now gone. So, I grabbed the next model down. It works as well.

Thank you....
