Error when launch NAVIGATION (GPSSim.txt)

I am unable to launch the NAVIGATION feature on Streetdeck. Here are the specs:
  • SD 1.0.5.7
  • Pharos GPS-360 receiver
  • Microsoft Strrets & Trips 2006
  • Microsoft MapPoint North America 2006
  • UMPC

When I launch NAVIGATION, I get the following error message:

Simulation File (C:\Program Files\StreetDeck\GPSSim.txt) Not Found!

How do I resolve this problem?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Does the file exist, first of all?

No. There is no such file... There were only 3 hits on Google for GPSSim.txt, one of which was unreachable (from my proxy) and the other two which had no description of the file (or the file itself).

I tried putting a dummy file called "GPSSim.txt" in the C:\Program Files\StreetDeck directory, but that did not help.

Wait... my proxy just let me on to the http://www.georgedeaniv.com/GPSSim.txt website.

Loading that file into the directory worked.

Is it a file generated by a GPS mapping software program (eg: Streets & Maps)?

is a GPS data log file. The above referenced file contains data from Maryland or somewhere. Does anyone know how to get the C:\Program Files\StreetDeck\GPSSim.txt file to be populated with data from the GPS receiver?

Streets & Trips as a stand-alone application works fine with the Pharos GPS receiver. StreetDeck is still not working with my Pharos GPS-360 receiver. I can't find a GPS data log anywhere and even if I find one, I don't know how to make it automatically rename itself "GPSSim.txt"

Thanks again.

OK, so the reason for the GPS Sim error was this:

Under SETTINGS, the "NAVIGATION OPTIONS" GPS Device Port was set to "Use GPSSim.txt"

By clicking on "detect", the device searches the COM ports for my GPS device. It appropriately finds it on COM 14 (Microsoft USB GPS). After saving to harddisk, it works!

Was there something specific you did to have "Use GPSSim.txt" for the Device Port? I've been trying to run a simulation (so i can download aerial data when i have an internet connection at home, after driving different places, and GPS data logged), but could not get it to load GPSSim.txt, even though i have one in the Program Files/StreetDeck directory.

For some reason, that was the default setting... Go into SETTINGS (in the skin when program running)>NAVIGATION> then choose to either use a GPS device or a GPSSim... at least that is how it worked on mine.

Before "fixing" it to use my GPS receiver - when it was on the GPSSim setting and after I loaded the GPSSim.txt file from the person in Maryland, SD took me on a drive around the streets of MD with Virtual Earth, so it obviously worked.

Good Luck!

p.s. Has anyone used the new Opera 9.0? The gestures are awesome!
