Any chance of making Streetdeck compatible with the Raon Vega?

I would love to get a Raon Vega and put StreetDeck on it:

http://www.dynamism.com/vega/main.shtml

But according to the guy at Carrypad, since the Vega doesn't have DirectX, it won't work.

Any plans to rejig the software so it would be Vega-compatible? Since the Vega is a great low-priced PC/UMPC, I think this would be an excellent idea.

Thanks!

Couldn't you just install DirectX on it? Its a free download from Microsoft.

Unfortunately not. There is no hardware support for directx on the cpu/gpu.
Software emulation would be too slow.(as is used on google earth.)

Well, if you wanted a UMPC for your car PC, you might want to use the Sony Vaio UX. It uses a Intel processor and the graphics is a standard Intel On-Board graphics. It should work fine on that system ... but the price point is about $2000 so there goes the cheap part.

Pretty much, if you want to do your system right you gonna have to spend some money.

Also to note, the Raon Vega uses a 500 mhz geode LX800 AMD Processor which should be fine for DirectX but I think too slow for StreetDeck. I couldn't find any information on the GPU for the Raon though.

Thw Asus r2h would be a better choice. Same (nearly) Intel graphics. Half the price and with gps integrated.

The Raon doesnt have a discreet gpu. Its on the cpu and its 2d and 3dnow only.
Maybe some 3dnow support on street deck would help
Steve.

3DNow! is a graphics handling instruction set included in all AMD CPUs starting with the original slotted Athlon CPUs, IIRC. That technology is supported by the latest iterations of both DirectX and OpenGL.

Your Raon unit does not have a 3D graphics processing unit. Without a 3D GPU, 3DNow! instructions are useless.
StreetDeck (or any other software, for that matter) can't support something that simply isn't in use!

Anyways, DirectX accelerates alot more than just 3D video and you do not have to have a 3D graphics adapter to use it. It just depends on how StreetDeck is coded.

On another note, looks like that Asus R2H has a better set of hardware than either the Sony or Vega. Check these stats out ...

Intel® Celeron® M ULV Processor (900MHz)
Genuine Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition
Onboard 256MB, DDRII 533, 1x SoDimm socket for expansion up to 768MB DDRII 667 DRAM support
7" WXGA touch screen LCD, ASUS Splendid Video Intelligent Engine
PATA 1.8" HDD 4200PRM 20/30/40/60 GB
Bluetooth® V2.0 + EDR, 3x USB, 1x SD Card-Reader, 1x GPS, 1x Finger Print Reader
23.4 x 13.3 x 2.8cm, 830g
