Short Route, not that short - Nav
Hi,
I have been using SD for a while, often when I use the Nav module not matter what option I select (short, faster or use of highways) to calculate the route it wont use the main highways like I-95 (south Florida), instead it will send me on a long drive using US-1 (full of traffic lights) that runs parallel to I-95.
Is there anyway to tell SD or Map Point that I-95 it is a lot faster than US-1?
Thanks

SD navigation is getting crazy. It routes you to all kind of ways and not the right way. Need to be restructure big time. Its get very annoying.

crazy routes
yeah... map point in general.. the last 3 times i have used mappoint 2004 on a 200+/- mile trip. i had to stop and ask for directions... lol. it got me within a mile or so.. but that was it.whats funny is that both of the locations were in florida. a movie theater and a circuit city.
oh well... all else fails.. get out and ask...
i just picked up streetdeck so we will see how it goes...

Check the speed limit values under the Nav settings. I once had the speed limits all reset to 50 mph, which ended up messing with my routing.
And if you REALLY want to favor highways, bump up the the speed limit on the highways and interstates. I found that makes Mappoint really think twice about pointing you elsewhere.

there's a place where you set your speeds.
also, if the highways were new, they might not be on the maps yet.

Yeah, like the stretch of the George Bush Turnpike between I-635 and I-35E

Four comments, all of which loosely pertain to the OP: ;-)
- Construction updates for Mappoint can be downloaded from Microsoft's website (for free, as I remember).
- I had the same problem as the OP when driving from Dallas to Waco on I35 (and I realize that most of you reading this thread won't be familar with that stretch of road, but Darque and Red likely will, and that info will add some context). SD always thought I was on either the access road or closely parallel roads, and kept attempting to reroute me "onto" I35 via the ramp at EVERY exit. However, zooming in on the map showed me to be squarely on the southbound lane of I35. Hmmm.
- StreetDeck ALWAYS avoids toll routes, as far as I can tell. I drive the Dallas North Tollway from downtown Dallas to the northern end frequently(25+ miles), and SD attempts to route me off of the Tollway and onto the access roads or parallel non-toll roads (Preston Rd. in Dallas) for the ENTIRE trip. Am I missing a configuration option, or is this expected behavior?
- Finally, I thought the road speeds option (Settings-->Nav settings--> Road speeds button) only controlled the speed that SD used to estimate the TIME it will take to complete a given route, and was not used in planning the route itself. Above comments seem to disagree...

Have you gotten that link to work on your machine?
That link is for Streets and Trips, not Map Point.

This is the link for mappoint 2006.. which I assume is the base engine for Streetdeck

So, umm, I dl'ed the file linked to; it's a .dat file. I tried everything I could think of; how do you go about updating the SD version of Mappoint with this file?

You could put the .dat file in programs/streetdeck/maps/data
This update however, will not update any roads. This update is used for construction data only.

So what exactly is "construction data", then? I took it to mean newly constructed/completed roads...is it just detours and such?
