With the (impending) release of the much-anticipated SD bluetooth hardware close at hand, my thoughts turned toward taking steps toward anticipating and eliminating the difficulties of using a phone with bluetooth in the car.
The convenience of bluetooth connectivity is that it allows one to leave the phone pocketed while in the car. However, this creates cell reception and call clarity issues in my experience (since the Bluetooth HFP supports audio, and HFP is a confirmed supported profile, it seems reasonable that SD will allow audio input/ouput through the computer and not just dial the phone...).
So, what is the best way to improve cell phone transmission/reception with a pocketed, in-car, phone? Physically connecting an external antenna to the phone would work, of course, but doesn't really make sense.
- Do the small "thru-the-glass" sort of antennas really work in improving signal transmission outside the car?
- Are there external antennas that have an internal cable extension...something to place near the driver seat (and hence near my pocketed phone) to pick up and convey the signal externally?
- Other ideas? Experience?
