mention this site to people installing in-car-pc's at your respective car sites?

Hey, this is a great site, lots of great ideas, and helpful members... It would be nice to have some more people on here, more people = more ideas. Im having trouble for example trying to get an install on a 3000gt, (not much space in the interior.) & Im trying to get other 3000gt folks from teh http://www.3si.org/ site to atleast be aware this site exists. Might be helpful for those planning to do an install to get more people with their exact car type on the board.

At the risk of sounding like an elitest jerk, I don't think we necessarily want to have every guy who says "wow great idea" to come here and start asking ridiculous questions. I know a lot of car forums are slammed with no search guys who ask silly questions, and a lot of guys that really have no business doing it in the first place. If we started going out and recruiting at random we'd end up with a lot of guys who have no computer knowledge and a thousand questions that have been asked a thousand times, and a thousand questions that anyone undertaking this task shouldn't be asking.

I think this is the kind of place that is best sought out than led to. The people that find this place usually have the requisite knowledge to start putting together their systems, then by coming to this forum they get to know a lot more about options and technology that most of the public does not know about and you can expand on your ideas and improve upon them.

I would advise against luring people here, but I can't tell you not to. If you do though, I would just try to invite people who you know would contribute to the community instead of detracting from it.

mp3car system is currently FUBAR and finances do not allow for a correction of that situation

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. My subforum of choice (VW Vortex- Passat All Other Models) is pretty mellow (as there arn't that many of us out there with older passats anymore), but I've seen the insanity and nonsense of car forums, even in other parts of the vortex vorums (but seems to be especially prevalent on forums about tuner cars, base imports, j bodys, etc). This site and what I've done to my passat have come up a number of times (most recently on a discussion about the b3's obd-i system and what info you can get out of it), but ive never been "EVERYONE JOIN MP3CAR." I don't think mentioning it is a bad thing, as being in the general conciousness isnt always a bad thing, but prodding people to join i dont think would have a good overall result on this forum.

Ah, well, I admit I see your point(s) on this issue. Perhaps a plug for mp3car.com is appropriate deep within a stereo-relocation-for-computer-install thread, to folks who are already putting computers in the cars, but a big "join www.mp3car.com" post is just going to bring a deluge of questions from windowshoppers who probibly wont actually work on a install, contribute any info, or bother do searches before asking.

Totally agree with you. THe CRX board Im on is just plain dying. The car is becoming more accessible to the cretins and the BBS is going down the tube. Id do something about it but sdaly not in the position to fix things
No, leave it as is. If people have the interest, they will hunt it out. It's not exactly a hard domain name to guess at now is it ?

I'm selfish. I dont want people to know what I'm doing. This is what makes my system unque from the rest of the system. Only the people who are creative enough and crazy enough to put a PC in their car deserve to be here. If you get outsiders to joint, they do nothing but create more problems.

Well, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one thinking this way...
I always visit my (crazily over-posted) car-specific site first (Matrixowners.com), and then run to the refuge of mp3car.com
I really appreciate the maturity and intelligence presented on this site...

I feel compelled to chime in and agree with the flow of this discussion. It seems a rarity today to find a forum that is not completely flooded with idiots trying to rack up a post count or pick fights and talk ****. If people are seriously intrested in building a system or info on how to improve an existing system, they will fond the site... its not that difficult. I am not opposd to the forum growing, but i think that active recruiting of any old person that likes cars and computers would definately be a bad idea.

Forgot to add.. I spend a lot of time reading all threads and responding to those which i am intrested in. When I head off to other forums, I am totally overwhemled by the number of posts collected in such a short period of time. I just cant read 2,000+ posts a day. There is enough info on this foroum already to keep me busy for a while. I like information, but dont want to drown in it.
