this site and vbulletin in particular barely breaks 3% processor utilization. With the combination of Turck MMCache and mysql query caching there is little to no performance hit associated with this. Another option if you are worried about using my resources would be to reduce the level of gzip compression from 9 to around 2 or 3. While gzip 9 produces a more compact page it does use more processor. If I were you I'd use all the processor I could... this dual xeon that mp3car lives on has pleanty of power to spare

(Admins are always whiny. I hope TechM3's advise it taken, because the users like the Users Viewing feature!)

mp3car currently has 71 visitors active, the server also hosts other websites. That in mind:

5:29pm up 58 days, 9:47, 2 users, load average: 0.08, 0.11, 0.09
177 processes: 176 sleeping, 1 running, 0 zombie, 0 stopped
CPU0 states: 3.2% user, 0.2% system, 0.0% nice, 96.0% idle
CPU1 states: 0.3% user, 1.2% system, 0.0% nice, 97.4% idle
CPU2 states: 0.2% user, 0.1% system, 0.0% nice, 99.2% idle
CPU3 states: 0.4% user, 0.2% system, 0.0% nice, 98.4% idle

this server isn't even doing anything really

Yup, there is nothing intensive about that, you can pop the MySQL back up
