"Car Audio (Non-PC)" subforum
How about a subforum for discussing headunits, amps, speakers and such? I have some questions and I don't want to have to look for a different forum and then try to figure out who's judgement to trust there. General car stereo fans aren't nearly as smart as the people around here.

I completely agree, I am new to the whole car audio thing, and have questions about whether or not I need an amp, or what to look for when testing speaker wires, etc. I think it would be a great addition to this forum, even if it is only a FAQ thread or something.

This is actually a good idea. I don't want the forums cluttered, but I think we need this one.

I have actually had this idea for a while, but held off on requesting it for just that reason. After the wireless subforum was created, things did start to look a little crowded, but car audio is much more critical to a good mp3car setup than WIFI is, so I thought I'd throw it out there. IMHO, the 'general hardware' and 'general discussion' subforums are redundant, the latter one is largely ignored and both end up with similar posts, so there are places where space could be saved.

Maybe this forum is something you're looking for?
www.diyaudio.com > Car Audio
Perhaps it's not very in-depth for generic car audio, but at least it does not carry the 'typical' car-audio forum signatures...

Well, I had the same question because I wasn't sure to post my subwoofer question except in offtopic. I think it would be OK to just start it and let it go wild...if it uses too much bandwidth or anything then just lock it down. Maybe something like a Newbie Car Audio forum, with a *YOU BETTER BE WORKING ON AN MP3 CAR* in the sub title...I think it would self-police, like how the screens forum is not flooded with people asking about what works as a PS2 screen.
Maybe a "From Soundcard to Ears" section?

I was thinking that a new sub forum with car audio is definetly necessarry.
Just think you can take your MP3 car project from top to bottom with the current forums but when you get to hooking your computer up to sound (where i am currently at) there is no place to put your posts except in general hardware (if broadness is an issue i think we shouldn't even have general hardware)
Obviosly we need all of the subforums that we currently have but the iving on the cake would be an audio forum

I think it is foolish from an owners perspective to ignore the demands of the clients (members in this case) I think an audio forum would greatly benefit the community and make this a much more active community. Audio is an intergral part of the mp3car process. As noted above generally the posters on here are much more electronically savy than those on your common car audio forums
Just my $.02

Also as a note to admins the added traffic / membership that an audio portion could bring to the site would mean a wider range of advertisers you could attract to compensate for the added cost of increased traffic to the site

Mmm, we're talking about clutter and topics being too broad.
"Off topic" or "General Hardware" are both pretty broad in my opinion. Should we tighten those down to.. "Something car-computer related but not serious" and "General car-computer hardware"? I don't think so. It's true the idea of a "Car Audio" section would be generally broad but this isn't the place where ricers with rattleing trunks are going to go to find out how to install a trunk that rattles more.
As for clutter, people are generating new posts about topics already discussed, already asked questions, etc. To me, this is more clutter than the addition of a new sub-forum. Then you've got your people asking about PS2 and XBox screens with no intention of a carpc, which is fine and all but again it's clutter.
Priorities please!
