Suggestion for the Software forum
I think it's great that different projects are being given sub-forums, however I have one concern with the way this is currently being handled.
I have concerns over projects like MediaCruiser, the D3 frontend etc getting "lost" within a seperate sub-forum to the likes of MediaEngine, MediaCar, FrodoPlayer etc.
I would like to suggest that we have a sub-forum from the main Software category, and EVERY individual project has a sub-forum there.
My suggestion:
Keep general discussions in:
MP3Car.com Forums > Technical > Software & Software Development
However, from there, we have the following sub-forums:
> Resources, Utilities, and Miscellaneous
> Community Created Software ( wording may be different to taste )
Under Resources, Utilities, and Miscellaneous we have it as it is currently, a highly moderated forum for these things.
However, under Community Created Software we have the following:
AutoTouch
Destinator 3 Frontend
Frodo Player
MediaCar
MediaCruiser
Media Engine
Mobile Media Centre
NeoCar Media Centre
PhoneControl
Voice Activated Navigation
V.O.I.C.E.S
etc, but most importantly, in alphabetical order. This way, no project gets "preference" by being listed first, or by being directly off the main Software forum, and others aren't "lost" in yet another sub-forum.
Just my input as to how all these awesome projects can get the same level of publicity.

I too agree, this has also been an issue that i have had noticed i think this would make things a lot more organised and would be a much more specific way of been able to find what i was looking for, that otherwise may get totally lost in the great ether of mp3 car computing

I completely agree, a sub-sub-sub forum is not an ideal place when you've got important news about your project
I'm sure some developers might be more dedicated to their applications than others, but I still think they should all be kept together

Well the whole point of this was to keep them from getting lost. So many good projects
now. I came up with this and discussed it with the admins. However, your suggestion
might be better, I will discuss it with them and see what they think.

The thinking was for the larger projects to be up front, but If you guys
are taking offence to it, I see your point.
I'll see if I can get a hold of the admins and see what they think, I'm just
a lackey

Hey Frodo,
I dont think its a question of "taking offense"... It is clear that FrodoPlayer is probably the most popular new frontend, and as such is in the main forum, but why is MMC there? Its a beta from everything I could test, and shouldnt be given more focus than other stuff...
I would suggest separating the software into categories:
Frontends -> all frontends, alphabetical or sorted by post count or whatever
Support Software -> plugins, phonecontrol, Destinator, etc
This will allow new software to at least compete in exposure with the others... No offense, but having "established" software (i.e. FP, ME, MC) on the main forum, and other very good projects in a subforum kinda kills any chance the other stuff has of making it....
Just one man's opinion tho...

Well I don't make the changes, so ya'll talk it over, figure out what ya'll
want, and then I'll talk to them again.

RoyN,
Now that you mention splitting it up into a "Frontends" and "Support Software" (or appropriate titles ) seems like a very good idea. I'm up for that idea too if the Admins are up for it as well
Frodo, it's not so much "taking offence", hell, none of my software is listed there! However I don't like to see other's hard work get lost in yet another sub-forum, and being further seperated from the other projects. No matter if they are "popular" or not, they have all had hard work and dedication put into them, and for that reason I feel that every project should get the same level of visibility

Ya, put them in alphabetical order so when AIMEE comes out it will be number one. *wink* * wink*
EDIT: And so I don't get jumped by the AIMEE team let me explicitly point out that I was joking. I have to remember that not everyone is as sarcastic as I am.

brady,
Luck rather than judgement! However, seriously, alphabetical is the only order I would have suggested, even if AIMEE wasn't called that, or it started with a Z or something, because alphabetical means that it's in some kind of order, but not in order of "preference" or "popularity"

I really donīt think that discussing precedence on a forum like this one makes mutch sense. Every work dedicated to a comunity should be praised equally.
But, if we are discussing spotlights, then if any, I think it should be centered on activity. The most active projects ( developement wise, not by number of posts ) should be under focus.
Not that it makes any diference to me. I have shortcuts to the projects in the order I like, donīt really know how the forum looks like

My two cents, I hate having to click 3 times to get to the forums that i used to be able to get to with. There is a lot of info in there, but it's coming cluttered with all the subforums.
