HUGE search icon in the newb's forum

considering weve gotten 2 threads in the past 2 days written by people who havent searched worth crap and also brought a bad attitude with them, im suggesting something to get their attentions: a nice huge search icon at the top of the newb's forum.

I second that. Or maybe a huge disclaimer of some sort.

Or when you see a thread that says 'noob' or 'newbie' you just don't read it, if you are that superior to answer someone elses question ok, god?

does that mean i should stay out of the newb's forum altogether than?

seriously though, if people would just do some simple searching, they would find the answers to most of their questions. at that point, if they do post a question in the noobs area, more than likely its going to be justified, they wont get bashed around as much, and they will get an answer to their question much faster.

I agree.

I personally find it equally as rude to post those search icons. Also, keep in mind that *some* people actually do search, but being they are new, they dont know what key words to use (I will admit that most probably do not search, and I can see how this would get very annoying.) I know thats how it is for me, becaue I dont know what terms to include in a search, so I have asked questions at some websites that many people could have replied with "search you dumb noob," but luckily the places I have posted, the people are respectful at.

So I agree that people should search, but take the above paragraph into consideration.

Edit: So I checked the newbie forum, started reading the first thread, and only could take about a page of it. I can definately see where you ar coming from, but still, I would just say to ignore it all. The initial learning curve is not exactly easy, which is why a lot of people get frustrated I guess.

They made the newbie sections SPECIFICALLY for newbies. Its their place to ask stupid newbie questions without searching or knowing really anything at all. If you choose not to answer those questions, then avoid that section. If on the other hand you feel bored or whatever someday, then go in there and answer questions (over and over again).

Sometimes a newb can't form a whole paragraphs worth of questions into a simple logical query against the forum. They just don't know what to search for. Sometimes a good answer to a noob question is "do a search for 'this term'". Also, sometimes multiple answers to the same question come up leading towards ambiguity. That certainly doesn't help someone with no experience.

We all had Posts: 1 under our name at some point.

The newbie post issue seems to bother only a certain subset of people. It IS annoying to see "How to hook up computer to amp?" over and over and over and over. But again, these are n00bs and they're in the Newbie forum, so can you blame them?

Maybe we ought to have a couple of volunteers who are patient and don't mind guiding the new folks who can moderate or answer the questions. I try to answer questions here and there but sometimes I get sick of it too and skip the effort. That doesn't help the new folks and of course, we WANT new people to join the hobby, don't we?

Alternatively, maybe we could have a feature added that lets you hit "New Posts" but filters out anyone with less than 'X' posts to their I.D.! You could set the value according to your tolerance. So if somebody asks a really stupid question and they have 50 posts, you could flame them without guilt!

Just lock the post - with a posted note that states - Post stupid questions without searching and your post WILL BE DELETED!
Also - as suggested previously lets get a sticky with accurate 'words' that needs to be used when a 'newbie' is searching.

Just another newbie making a suggestion...i'm still trying to understand the whole car pc thing...
