Vista Solution

Don't know if someone have mensioned it yet, and i'm a newbie...

You can get it to work under Windows Vista 32-Bit and 64-Bit, and you can get it all for free, exept TomTom of cause :-)

Programs needed:

Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center Driver for Windows Vista:
Vista 32-Bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Vista 64-Bit: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0

Windows Mobile 6 Localized Emulator Images

Remember to get the Professional version, cause there you can emulate the Pocket PC

Seems to be fine

I simply copied the files straight off the XP drive installed the emulator and images, called the batch file up from within CF, and it embeds straight away and tomtom still works smoothly.

One tweak I have done is make PPC run at startup using a batch file containing:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Device Emulator\1.0\DeviceEmulator.exe" "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 MSFP Emulator Images\pocketpc.nb0" /s "C:\pocketpc.dess" /p /sharedfolder "C:\StorageCard" /vmname TomTom /video 800x318x16 /memsize 128

I then open tomtom from within the emu. manually
then run CF

Then make CF run an empty batch file called TomTom.bat containing only

cmd
exit

And give it TomTom as a window name
This forces CF to Embed the already open Emulated TomTom program

Only thing is I have removed the serial bit as its crashing out in the house with no GPS, and the GPS unit is built into my car now

TomTom takes ages to load at first (hence the pre-loading thing) on a SP13000 but runs through the menus pretty smoothly once loaded, and music doesn't stutter

I use hibernate and suspend all the time so the long startup doesn't matter. Up to now all seems well after resuming

Will test in car soon...

Can someone write a quick update to the install procedure using Emulator 2.0 and TomTom 6?

The process does not seem to work the way it did with the 1.0 and 2.0 Beta emulators. And I never was able to get TomTom 6 to work correctly, it could not find the map loaded on the virtual SD on the C: drive.

I could go through the whole thing using 1.0 and upgrade as you all have but it seems unnecessary.

If I missed a post that covered this I appologize in advance.

you can use GPSGate to emulate a feed from a log.

I'll try to do some similar stuff with RR but on XP. I'm not happy using Vista just yet!

I will probably be going back to XP before I refit into the car

Vista is nice and does bring benefits, but its just too new at the moment and some of my hardware has no drivers for vista, just used the XP ones for now but that stops my PC from sleeping

I installed the Emu2.0 and Images from fresh, and then just copied my saved state, batch files, and c:\storagecard directory accross and it works as described above...

Will see if I can find a log to run on it tonight, failing that, I'll rip the GPS out of the car AGAIN

Thanks, but that thread didn't contain an organized process for MDE 2.0 and TomTom 2006 either. I tried hunting through the threads to put a from scratch process together but it's just too back and forth with all the work you guys did to work though the issues.

ok, here's what you need to do:

install the pocketpc emulator

install the images

start up the WM5 image

create a directory called SC

configure the emulator use the SC directory as it's storage card

configure the emulator to use the serial port that the gps is connected to, and make it Serial 0 for the emulator

Now if you start the emulator, you have an instance that has a storage card, and a GPS connected to serial 0.

So next you can either install TomTom through Active sync, or by putting the TomTom setup files on the SD card and running them from there. For the activesync method, you need to run the DMA connection method (in the activesync settings) and make sure the device emulator manager is connected to your pocketpc instance!

Now TomTom is installed, and it should have access to the GPS receiver.

sounds comlplicated, but it's all there!
